Story By: JEREMY PETTY / BRADFORD SPEEDWAY – BRADFORD, PA – A blazing summer evening didn’t stop 47 competitors from coming to the Bradford Speedway, where a smooth, multi-groove racing surface set the stage for a night of feature events across five divisions.

The action was hot, the competition fierce, and the fans were treated to a program that delivered from green flag to checkered.

The evening kicked off with the Rush Pro Mod feature, with Smethport’s own Steve Dixon and Josh Wilcox starting on the front row. Dixon wasted no time jumping to the lead coming out of turn two. A lone caution flew early after contact between Josh Canfield and Dean Ingalls, but on the restart, Dixon drove away from the field, cruising to his second win of the season at Bradford. “This track is amazing tonight,” Dixon said in victory lane. “Smooth, has a couple lanes. This car is amazing.”

Next up were the Kids Mini Stocks, where Bradley Weis and Kylie Putt led the field to green. Weis controlled the race early, leading the first 12 laps, but Jake Skinner of West Clarksville, NY, was on the move. After working his way past Chase Tidd and Putt, Skinner spent several laps pressuring Weis. With just three laps to go, Weis got sideways exiting turn two, allowing Skinner to slip by and take the lead. He never looked back, claiming his second feature win of the season. “I’m surprised I even got it,” Skinner said with a smile. He gave credit to “Dad’s wallet, Trevor, and Close Racing Supply.”

The Sharp Mini Late Model feature followed, and it was anything but smooth early on. Chris Whyte, starting fourth, nearly stalled in turn one and fell back to eighth. Lap 2 brought out the yellow for Jackson Himes, followed by another caution for Oakley Terrill and Donovan Sevrey. By then, Whyte had climbed back to third. On the restart, Jesse Isadore of Smethport, PA, took the lead from Travis Asel, with Whyte slotting into second. The race settled into a green-flag rhythm for 11 laps until Whyte spun in turn three while chasing Isadore. Multiple late-race restarts brought fresh challengers, but Isadore held strong to score the victory. “Restarts on a track like this are pretty tough,” Isadore admitted. “You’ve got to be quite the feather-foot. Honestly, it was tough to figure out—tacky and slippery. You just have to be consistent.” He turned emotional, adding, “My dad works his butt off on this track every week. I don’t think he’s ever poured his heart into something like he’s poured into this track.”

Seventeen SCDRA Mini Stocks took the green in the next feature. Chaos broke out before the first lap was completed, as heavy contact between front-row starters Ryan Burke and Dylan Strade ended Burke’s night. Strade took control on the restart, but heartbreak struck on lap 12 when a mechanical failure forced him to the infield. That handed the lead to DJ Williams of Wellsville, NY. Williams had to navigate lap traffic, including a stubborn Tanor Shaw, while Khloe Griffin began to close the gap. Staying calm under pressure, Williams brought home the win. “Last year I would’ve been cheesballing to see Dylan break,” Williams said. “But it hurt my ego— we’re all a team. I want to see my friends stay in the front.

The final feature of the night was the Pure Stocks, and the drama started early. Contact between Tyler Rendell and last week’s winner, Anthony Schoonover, ended Rendell’s evening. Mike Parmenter took control of the race early with Joe Skinner, also of West Clarksville, NY, close behind. A lap-13 caution for debris gave Skinner another shot. With just four laps remaining, Skinner dove low in turns three and four, throwing a slider to take the lead. He held off Parmenter to score his first win of the season. “I was watching him,” Skinner explained. “He’s solid in 1 & 2, but in 3 & 4, I heard that engine rev. I knew that was his downfall right there. When he revved, I pulled it in and rolled it out.”

Racing continues next Sunday at 6:00 p.m. with a full points night that will include the Rush Late Models. Fans won’t want to miss Sunday, July 13th, when the Rush Late Model Touring Series returns to Bradford, with $4,000 on the line for the winner. Make your plans now to be at the Bradford Speedway
