Johnathan Ferguson Takes DIRTcar 358-Modified Win At Brockville Ontario Speedway

Story By: TIM BALTZ / BROCKVILLE ONTARIO SPEEDWAY – BROCKVILLE, ONT – After three straight weeks of rain outs and wet grounds racing action continued Saturday night at the Brockville Ontario Speedway with six classes of action in store on Polite Sand and Gravel and Superior Cellular and Sound night.
A great crowd saw some excellent racing, with new and familiar faces in victory lane at the end of the night.
The 25 lap DIRTcar Sportsman feature saw Shane Stearns jump out front in the early laps over Bobby Herrington, Sylvain Dupuis, Gavin Eisele and Justin Cyr. Stearns had a fast car but after opening day, Herrington was on a mission as he charged to the lead on the high side of turn 4 on lap 8, leaving Stearns and Eisele to battle for 2nd and third. By the halfway point Herrington had built up a huge lead on the field while Eisele, nearly a straight away behind, was able to get around Stearns for 2nd, but had a long way to go to catch the leader. As the laps clocked off Herrington kept getting faster and not even lapped cars were slowing his pace. On this night Gavin Eisele and the rest of the field would have to wait their turn as Bobby Herrington dominated to score win number 1 of 2025 and 35th Brockville Sportsman win. Gavin Eisele, Shane Stearns, Matt Barbour and Xavier Andrews rounded out the top 5.
The 25 lap Mini Stock feature was up next and Mike Saunders led early on over Hayden Brown and opening day winner Marc Dagenais. The top three put on a great show for the fans but closing quickly was Clayton Celovsky, who made his way to the top 3 and tried to keep pace with both Brown and Saunders. Marc Dagenais experienced problems ending his day early on lap 15. On the restart Brown and Saunders both had problems which allowed Celovsky to take over the top spot, bringing Jarod Galway to the runner up position, as they put on a spirited battle for the lead. With 5 laps to go Galway was closing fast on the outside lane but Celovsky remained up front and was not shaken by the pressure. After a solid 2024 season, Clayton Celovsky put it all together to record his first career win. Jarod Galway, Mike Saunders, Matt Boal and Max Steele finished out the top 5.
Johnathon Ferguson had not won since July of 2022 at The BOS in the DIRTcar 358 Modifieds and took the lead early with Kyle Dingwall and Tristan Draper giving chase. Dingwall’s night ended early on lap 6 as he slowed to a stop. This left Ferguson and Herbison to do battle as the green flew once again, while Tristan Draper closed for the number three position. Herbison would take the lead on the bottom lane and started to drive away. Ferguson would rally back driving the car hard on the outside lane as he tried to keep pace with his best friend in the closing laps. On lap 19 Ferguson made that outside lane work in turns 3 and 4 as he powered by Herbison for the lead with Draper right there to challenge. As the laps clicked off the top three battled hard for the win with Cornwall invaders Corey Wheeler and Gabriel Cyr completing the top 5. After nearly a three year winless drought Johnathon Ferguson was able to hold on and record his first win of the year. Tristan Draper got by Jarrett Herbison for second with Corey Wheeler and Gabriel Cyr the top 5.
Defending track champion Lee Ladouceur was the early leader in the 20 lap Surprenant Truck Shop Crate Sprint Car feature over Josh Verne Jr. and Adam Turner. Verne was looking to put a tough night at Can Am behind him as he charged by Ladouceur to take the lead on the outside lane on lap 7. Once in front it looked as if Verne was going to drive away unchallenged for the win, however Ladouceur changed his line and began to run down the race leader in the closing stages. Verne remained focused on hitting his marks and it paid off as Josh Verne Jr. would hold on for his first win of 2025 and 4th trip to Brockville victory lane. Lee Ladouceur, Adam Turner, Kyle Wilson and 2022 track champion Ryan Poole crossed in 5th.
Ian Gordon was looking to make it two wins in two days with the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club as he grabbed the lead early in the 70/80 division over Steve Billings and Brian Comeau. At the same time in the 50/60 class, Greg Hale grabbed the lead from Jeff Cledgett and was also looking for his second win in as many nights. With both divisions on track at the same time, traffic was a factor but Gordon was able to fend off several challenges from Billings while Hale continued to lead the 50/60 division and Xavier Perrin closing fast. Steve Billings slowed off turn 1 & 2 while running second on lap 13 of the 20 lap feature, bringing out the yellow. When he green flew both Gordon and Hale continued to lead their respective classes but the race was far from over. On the final lap Gordon got held up in traffic which brought Randy Gaudet into contention. At the same time Perrin was all over Greg Hale for the 50/60 division. At the checkered flag Ian Gordon was able to fend off Gaudet for his second win in two nights. Hale and Perrin came off turn 4 and at the line Xavier Perrin was able to claim the 50/60 win by a car length over Greg Hale.
The night was closed out by the Novice Sportsman division for 12 laps and Patrick Kudrinko was also looking for his second win in as many nights. Kudrinko led wire to wire at Can Am on Friday and was in control early over Kyle Kudrinko and Cory Lambert. The top three put on a great battle for the lead with Patrick Kudrinko staying in control of the race. In the end Patrick Kudrinko would go unchallenged and receive an early birthday present, a weekend sweep, his first win of 2025 and his second ever Brockville Novice Sportsman win. Kyle Kudrinko crossed in 2nd with Cory Lambert, Drake Cartier and opening day winner Tessa Reimersma 5th.
Next week a full program will be in action along with the first even of the season for the Street Stocks and a special event for the Pro Stock division. The Mini Stocks will have the evening off. Racing begins at 7pm with spectator gates opening at 5.
