Column By: STEPHEN DURHAM / RPW – DERRY, NH – June has started.  Better late than never, but the power rankings for the Super DIRTcar Series rankings keep motoring on.

Mother Nature claimed another race in May, with the Delaware Diamond 75 getting postponed. Stewart Friesen claimed another win in the regular season, and “Superman” Matt Sheppard tallied his 99th career series win.

Three diverse tracks on deck this month, with two of them being yesterday at Big Diamond, and now today, the stars of the Super DIRTcar Series heads to Selinsgrove Speedway. Then, in just over two weeks, the Super DIRTcar Series heads to the high banks of Lebanon Valley for Mr. DIRT TRACK USA, the makeup event from last September.

Will Matt Sheppard get win 100 with the series this week or this month? As we begin to heat up this month, who will turn up the heat or cool down those off to a hot start? Who will be crowned Mr DIRTTRACK USA from the postponed race of 2024 at Lebanon Valley. Here is the June Super DIRTCar Series Power Rankings.

Matt Sheppard (Previous: 2):

He broke into the win column on the regular season for the first time at Thunder Mountain for The Natural 77. He finds himself now 23 points back in 4th place in the regular season standings. WIth that win last month, he also had a top 10 finish at Weedsport on Memorial Day Weekend. Sheppard, a past winner at Lebanon Valley whether it was the spring or late summer edition, last winning there in May of 2023. Expect Sheppard to be running up front and to heat up into the summer months.

Mat Williamson (Previous: 1):

May was a strong month for “Money Mat”, grabbing a podium finish at Weedsport Memorial Day weekend, and had a 11th place finish at Thunder Mountain. Williamson is currently 3rd in the regular season standings, while he is 2nd overall in the DIRTcar National standings. Williamson had a top 5 last June at Big Diamond, and has four top 5s and six top 10s in nine starts at Lebanon Valley. His last top 5 at Lebanon Valley was spring of 2022.

Alex Yankowski (Previous: 6):

For “The Kid Rocket”, it has been a stellar start to the season, as he leads the way in the championship standings. Yankowski currently leads in both the DIRTcar Nationals and regular season standings. Yankowski had a top 10 at Weedsport, followed by a top 5 at Thunder Mountain. Yankowski will look to solidify himself as a championship contender as we head into the summer. Yankowski had a 20th place finish last June at Big Diamond. Yankowski last visited Lebanon Valley in 2023, where he had a 7th and 14th place finish.

Anthony. Perrego (Previous: 3):

It was a consistent pair of races for Perrego at Weedsport and Thunder Mountain, coming away with a pair of top 10 finishes. Perrego early on this season is currently 7th in the championship standings, 14 points from current 5th place Mahaney. Perrego will look to improve one position from last year at Big Diamond where he finished 2nd behind Friesen. Lebanon Valley hasn’t been kind to Perrego, but he does have top 10 finishes, and will look to improve this month.

Erick Rudolph (Previous: 7):

Over the last month and a half, Erick Rudolph has been one of the hotter drivers on the series. Heading into this week, Rudolph has had 3 straight top 5 finishes. Rudolph has finished in the top 10 in all four features so far in 2025 as well, finding himself 2nd in the championship standings, 11 points back. Rudolph came away with a top 10 last June at Big Diamond, and hasn’t been back to Lebanon since 2021, where he came away with a pair of top 10s.

Tim Sears Jr (Previous: 4):

The two races in May were not friendly to Sears Jr, finishing outside the top 15 at both Weedsport and Thunder Mountain. Sears has yet to experience Big Diamond or Selinsgrove Speedways until this week, and will look to build his notes there. Sears in four starts at Lebanon Valley, has one top 10, coming back in September of 2023.
Peter Britten (Previous: 8): Britten has begun to turn it around, after mechanical issues at Albany Saratoga. May’s peak moment for Britten was a runner up finish at Thunder Mountain. Britten will look to build momentum in Pennsylvania this week, and also at Lebanon Valley. For the “Batman” Peter Britten, he had a top 10 at Big Diamond last June, while the Lebanon Valley is a past Saturday night home, where he has found victory lane before, most recently being 2019.

Jimmy. Phelps (Previous: 5):

It was a tough go for the “Baldwinsville Bandit” in May, finishing outside the top 15 both races, as well with a DNF at Thunder Mountain. Britten will look to turn it around in June, Big Diamond he had a top 10 finish last June, while at Lebanon Valley, in 27 starts, had five top 5s, and fourteen top 10s.

Alex Payne (Previous: 9):

Alex Payne had a pair of very strong finishes in May, finishing 4th at Weedsport, followed up by a 6th place finish at Thunder Mountain. Payne had an 18th place finish last June at Big Diamond, and has yet to make a start at Lebanon Valley. Keep an eye on this guy though, as he sits 9th in the championship standings, and looks to carry his speed into the summer months.

Mike Mahaney (Previous: UR):

Mahaney made a leap into the power rankings after a really strong May, coming away with a runner-up finish at Weedsport, and then a 12th place finish at Thunder Mountain. Mahaney currently sits 5th in the championship standings. Mahaney had a 16th place finish last June at Big Diamond, but expect him to bring speed at Lebanon Valley. In 9 starts at Lebanon, Mahaney has three top 5s, and four top 10s, finishing 2nd in May of 2023.

On The Radar:

Felix Roy: A new regular to the Super DIRTcar Series, nearly made his name into the top 10 in power rankings. Roy had a pair of top 10s in May between Weedsport and Thunder Mountain. Roy currently sits 7th in the championship standings. Between Big Diamond, Selinsgrove, and Lebanon, Roy only has 4 starts at the tracks, 2 each at Big Diamond and Lebanon.

Jack Lehner: Lehner is beginning to show speed, as the days get warmer, but has yet to crack the top 10 in 2025. Lehner’s best finish in 2025 in the series is 11th at Weedsport.

Valley Regulars: As many could agree, Lebanon Valley Speedway may be one of the most difficult tracks for Super DIRTcar Series regulars to invade and win. This may be different for someone like Matt Sheppard. Sheppard is the only driver since 2016 to win at Lebanon Valley as a series regular. Otherwise it has been Bachetti, who won Mr DIRT Track USA 3 times in a row, Lombardo, or Tremont. Expect the regulars to put up a good fight later this month.

The Super Dirt Series visited Big Diamond last night, June 3rd, now head to Selinsgrove Speedway tonight, then onto Lebanon Valley for June 19th. Check back later this month after these races, for our next edition of power rankings for the Super DIRTcar Series.
