Aubrey Romig Captures Second Junior Slingshot Win During Christmas In July At Linda’s
Story By: KASEY KREIDER / LINDA’S – JONESTOWN, PA – On a “Christmas in July” night at the Linda’s Speedway that felt a whole lot more like July than Christmas, the heat and humidity surrounding the Jonestown area once again turned into a heavy shower that forced the ultimate cancellation of the night’s racing activities in the middle of Friday night’s show.
But while the rest of the divisions were left with a lump of coal from Mother Nature, there was one present under the Christmas tree for the Hoffer Paving Junior Slingshot class, as they were able to get their complete show in prior to the rainfall. In yet another battle between two of Linda’s Speedway’s most talented young female racers, Aubrey Romig came out on top ahead of Lilly Esterly to score her second Junior Slingshot win of the 2025 season.
Esterly dominated the heat race, winning that eight-lapper by over five seconds ahead of the rest of the competition. But Romig started on pole for the feature, and held off Esterly during the early part of the race.
After looking high and low on the No. 10s, Esterly pulled to the outside down the backstretch on lap 7. After running side-by-side the whole way around the turn, the two leaders made contact down the frontstretch, sending Esterly for a spin and Romig to the tail of the field as well for her role in the incident.
But it only took one lap after the restart for Romig to find her back to the front, as she used the outside groove to vault her way from fourth to first. Esterly would shuffle her way back into second, but couldn’t get close enough to challenge Romig again over the final run to the checkered flag.
The remaining scheduled races for the Mt. Gretna Roller Rink 270 Micro Sprints, Bernheisel Race Components Chargers, All Star Slingshots, and Xcel 600 Modified Tour were washed out due to the rain. Future plans for those events are still to be determined.
Linda’s Speedway is off next Friday, Aug. 1, but returns to action on Thursday, Aug. 7 with the debut of the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota at the Jonestown quarter-mile. The series will make its second of four stops of Appalachian Midget Week at Linda’s. Joining the Midgets as the support classes for the evening will be the Hoosier Tire Wingless 600 Micro Sprints and the Skeet Craft Collision Junior Sprints
