North Country Nasty: Short Track Super Series Visits Can-Am, Mohawk
Story By: BRETT DEYO / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – LAFARGEVILLE, NY – The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco heads north for a two-night swing invading Can-Am Motorsports Park in LaFargeville, N.Y., on Monday, Aug. 4 and Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, N.Y., on Tuesday, Aug. 5.
The back-to-back huge events feature both the STSS Modified and STSS Sportsman contingent.
On Monday, The Gloves Are Off at Can-Am Speedway.
For the first time in series history, the STSS takes on the ‘Nasty Track of the North’ at Can-Am Speedway with the The Gloves Are Off 51 featuring the STSS Modifieds in a 51-lap, $5,051-to-win event plus the STSS Sportsman racing 25 laps for a $1,551 top prize. Can-Am Speedway’s ThunderCars complete the tripleheader program.
On Tuesday, attention turns to Mohawk International Raceway with the Summer Showdown on the Border paying $10,000 to the win for the STSS Modifieds after 50 laps and $2,000 to win for the STSS Sportsman in a 35-lap feature. Mini Stocks complete the three-division program.
The series made a successful debut at Mohawk International last August.
STSS point battles are heating up in both the HYTORC of New York Modified North Region and Madsen Overhead Doors Inc. Sportsman North Region.
In the Modified HYTORC of New York North Region, Stewart Friesen of Sprakers, N.Y., leads Matt Sheppard of Savannah, N.Y., by just nine points. David Hebert, Jack Lehner and Alex Yankowski complete the top five.
Sportsman Madsen Overhead Doors Inc. North Region standings see Tyler Peet of Lake Ariel, Pa., leading Blaine Klinger (by 37 points), Joe Toth, Dylan Madsen and Garrett Chillot.
