Raabe And Welling Top Of The Class On Theisen Snap-On Tools Night At Mohawk

Story By: ROBERT HILL JR. / MOHAWK SPEEDWAY – HOGANSBURG, NY – Theisen Tools/Snap-On presented a regular night of racing at Mohawk with a full card of events and a discounted $10 entry fee for fans to enjoy a night of racing in the North Country. For the DIRTCar 358 modifieds, this night served as their final tune-up before the DIRTCar 358 series comes to town on Thursday, July 17th.

Mini-Stock kicked off the evening with two heat races. In Heat #1, Rocky Francis and Todd Fleury led the field to green. Francis jumped out to an early lead, but Fleury fought back and took the point on lap #2. CJ Lavair found an extra gear at the halfway point, closing in on Fleury and passing him with two laps to go in the six-lap heat. Caution flew just prior to the white flag as multiple cars went around in turn #3, bunching the field for a late-race dash to the checkers. Lavair held on for the win. Heat #2 saw Brandon Bagnato and Emily Massy dueling for the top spot from the drop of the green, but in the end, Bagnato took the victory. 

Todd Fleury and Emily Massy led the field to green in the feature. Francis White and Brandon Bagnato quickly moved to the front of the pack, with CJ Lavair following suit, overtaking the two pole sitters on lap #2. Bagnato experienced mechanical issues just one lap later, dropping him to the tail of the field on lap #3, prompting a yellow flag. On the restart, Massy battled with Lavair for second, as White found a high gear and pulled away from the pack. At the halfway point, Lavair re-entered the fight, going wheel-to-wheel with White, while Massy closed in. White’s car went up in smoke approaching the white flag but still managed to hold on for the win, narrowly edging out CJ Lavair and Emily Massy for his second consecutive victory.

Next on the track were the Limited Sportsman. Jackson Welling quickly took the lead early over Stephen Bushey, pulling away from the rest of the field. Bushey’s car went up in smoke just before the white flag, leading to a caution and a combined finish. Welling claimed the win. Heat #2 featured Graysen Reddick and Jacorey Thompson-Arquette battling for the top spot. Bryan Tarbell also challenged, but at the line, Thompson-Arquette secured the checkered flag first.

Justin Lazore and Jacorey Thompson-Arquette started on the front row for the 15-lap feature. Welling quickly moved into second, chasing Lazore. Welling attempted several passes before a caution on lap 4 for Joe Chartier’s crash into the wall in turn #3. Welling took the lead on the restart and pulled away to earn his second career victory.

The DIRTCar 358 modifieds showcased their power with two heat races. Franklin Mackin jumped out early in Heat #1 over Casey Swamp. Jordan McCreadie moved into second on lap #2 as Swamp lost positions, and Mackin held on to claim his first career 358 modified heat win. Heat #2 featured Jarrett Herbison and Brian McDonald battling for the lead. Chris Raabe made a late run but ran out of time, with Herbison ultimately securing the win.

For the 30-lap feature, Raabe and Swamp led the field to green. Raabe got a strong start, while Swamp fell behind McDonald and Herbison. A caution on lap 4 for Thomas Cook’s slow pace on the frontstretch slowed the field. Raabe maintained his lead on the restart as McDonald and Herbison dueled behind him. Mario Clair advanced through the field after a strong qualifying run, while Lucas Fuller, fresh off his career first win, battled with McCreadie for fifth. By halfway, McDonald found a line that cut nearly a second off Raabe’s lead in a few laps. As the leaders navigated through lapped traffic, Raabe’s car exited the pack slightly quicker, extending his lead to secure his third win of the season.

In DIRTCar Sportsman action, Greg Snyder led Heat #1 early, with Karl Potvin and Shane Pecore closing in. Despite spirited charges from Potvin and Pecore, Snyder held on to claim the top spot. Heat #2 saw Dylan Moore and Fire Swamp (Mario Dupuis) leading the field. Swamp, driving the #27D ‘The Navan Ninja’ after an early hot lap incident, took command and pulled away from a fierce battle for second among Moore, Michael Wright, and Kristian Smoke. Swamp secured the win. Heat #3 featured Cory Castell and Tristan Ladoucer battling for the lead, with Joshua Jock joining the fight late. In a near photo finish, Castell edged out Ladoucer for the win.

For the 25-lap Sportsman feature, Jock and Wright led the field. Ladoucer quickly challenged Jock for the lead and took it a few laps in. Shane Pecore moved into second, trying to catch the leader, but a late caution with five laps remaining for Skylar Ladoucer in turn 1 and 2 reset the order. Pecore timed his restart perfectly, passing Ladoucer and holding on to his fourth victory of the 2025 season.

In Pro-Stocks, Heat #1 saw Zack Daniels take the early lead, with Dakota Sharp and Ricky Thompson battling behind him. An incident involving Sharp and Thompson brought out a caution with three laps remaining. On the restart, both drivers managed to recover and finished third and fourth behind Daniels and Owen White. Heat #2 featured Eric Jean-Louis taking the lead over Tyler Bushey and Denis Gauvreau. Gauvreau moved into second late in the race, but Jean-Louis held on for the Swamps Automotive checkered flag. The third heat had Ian Bressett and Marc Lalonde leading the field. Sid Harmer Jr. took the lead on lap 2, with Lalonde second. A yellow flag was thrown for Roch Aubin’s spin in turn #2, then another for Kevin Fetterly Sr. going off track with three laps to go. Harmer and Lalonde traded the lead until Fetterly Jr. spun off turn #4 with two laps remaining, bringing out a caution. Harmer and Gauvreau were subsequently disqualified for contact incidents.

In the feature event, Daniels and Jean-Louis led the field. Daniels took the early lead, while Jean-Louis and Harmer Jr. battled for second. A caution on lap 1 for Fetterly Sr. and Austin Ward’s spins slowed the race. The next yellow came on lap 2 after contact between Sid Harmer Jr. and Denis Gauvreau. Daniels maintained his lead on the restart, but Jean-Louis quickly closed the gap. As the race progressed, Sharp moved into the lead with a few laps remaining and held on for the victory.
