RPW Exclusive: Super DIRTcar Series Power Rankings To Close Out July
Column By : STEPHEN DURHAM / RPW – DERRY , NH – We are in the final week of July, three races are in the books, and the battle for Super DIRTcar Series Championship is heating up. The series first headed across the international border into Canada at Cornwall Motor Speedway, where Mario Clair defended his home turf. The series then headed back to the US at Mohawk International Raceway where it was Stewart Friesen getting his 4th Super DIRTcar Series win of the season. Then it was Mat Williamson grabbing his first win of the 2025 season at Land of Legends Raceway.
Williamson and Yankowski are neck and neck in the championship battle, but the Top 5 in the championship standings are only separated by 90 points total. There are 14 races until Super DIRT Week 53 at Oswego, and an additional two races after that before the World of Outlaws World Finals in November, so there is still plenty of racing left for the Super DIRTcar Series in 2025.
Here are the Super DIRTcar Series Power Rankings as we head into the final week of July.
1. Mat Williamson (Previous: 2): Williamson was the lone driver of the previous power rankings to pick up a win over the previous three races. Williamson was a tough contender, and just barely edged out Yankowski in the mid-July power rankings, picking up the win at Land of Legends, as well as podium finishes at Cornwall and Mohawk. Williamson trails Yankowski by 4 points when the Super DIRTcar Series heads to Weedsport. Williamson came away with a top 5 back in May at Weedsport. In 2024, Williamson had a top 5 and a top 10 at Autodrome Drummond, followed by a top 10 finish at Brockville later in September, both tracks that Williamson has won at. Expect Williamson to be chomping at the bit to take over the top spot in the championship standings.
2. Alex Yankowski (Previous: 1): It was yet another strong run over the last month for the “The Kid Rocket”, with Yankowski getting three top 5 finishes. Despite the strong runs, his championship lead over Williamson has shrunk down to 4 points as the series heads to Weedsport. Yankowski had a top 10 finish back in May at Weedsport. The two Canadian tracks coming up will be a new challenge for the hot shoe as well. Expect Yankowski to build on his notes for Weedsport, continue to lead the field in the 2025 championship standings as we head into the heart of the summer heat.
3. Erick Rudolph (Previous: 4): If there was a storyline before the 2025 season that those who follow the Super DIRTcar Series didn’t expect, it would be Erick Rudolph is a championship contender. He has proved he is a championship contender, currently sitting 3rd in the championship standings, 25 points ahead of multichampion, Matt Sheppard, and 55 points back from Williamson. Rudolph came away with two top 10s at Cornwall and Mohawk, followed by a runner-up finish at Land of Legends. On the season so far in 2025, Rudolph has four top 5s, and eight top 10s. The next three races, all are tracks Rudolph has won at. Rudolph last won at Weedsport in 2023, Autodrome Drummond in 2022, and Brockville back in 2018.
4. Matt Sheppard (Previous: 3): For “Superman” Matt Sheppard, it was a steady and strong showing over the last month. A top 5 at Mohawk, followed up by a top at 10 at Land of Legends. Sheppard still is in reach of the championship lead, but the gap between him and Williamson/Yankowski has grown over the last month and half. Sheppard will look to get hot as we head into the dog days of summer. Sheppard had a 7th place finish back in May at Weedsport. Sheppard will be looking close that gap at all three tracks where Sheppard has multiple career wins, including 28 total wins at Weedsport.
5. Peter Britten (Previous: 5): It was a strong few races for the “Batman” Peter Britten, grabbing a top 5 and a top 10 between Mohawk and Land of Legends Raceway. Britten so far on the season has two top 5s and four top 10 finishes, leading to him currently sitting 7th in the championship standings. Weedsport wasn’t too friendly to Britten back in May, coming home with a 16th place finish. With the upcoming schedule, Britten has had success in Canada at Drummond and Brockville, with multiple top 5 finishes.
6. Mike Mahaney (Previous: 8): It was a steady and quiet few races for Mahaney, coming home with a pair of top 10 finishes, with a pair of heat race wins as well. Mahaney’s one blemish was an 18th place finish at Mohawk. Heading into Weedsport, Mahaney sits 6th in championship standings, 4 points behind Alex Payne, and 9 points behind Sheppard. Mahaney’s stats on the 2025 season so far is two top 5s, and six top 10 finishes so far. Mahaney had a runner-up finish at Weedsport behind Stewart Friesen back in May. Mahaney has won before at Autodrome Drummond, winning in 2023 with the Super DIRTcar Series.
7. Alex Payne (Previous: 7): Alex Payne steadily improved over the previous 3 races, finishing outside of the top 10 at Cornwall, then one spot short of a top 10 at Mohawk, followed by a top 5 at Land of Legends. Payne currently sits 5th in the championship standings, 5 points back behind Matt Sheppard. Payne will look to continue his success in 2025 at Weedsport, where he had a 4th place finish back in May. Payne will be looking forward to returning to Brockville, as he is the defending winner from last September. Payne also collected a pair of top 5 finishes at Autodrome Drummond in 2024.
8. Anthony Perrego (Previous: 6): It was a steady, but quiet few races as well for Perrego, grabbing a top 10 finish at Mohawk. Heading into Weedsport, Perrego is 8th in the championship standings, 9 points behind Britten. Perrego will be looking to build momentum heading into the heart of summer at Weedsport, where he finished 10th earlier this season. Perrego will be looking to find speed at Autodrome Drummond, where he finished outside of the top 15 in both races, but at Brockville, Perrego was able to come home 2nd behind Alex Payne.
9. Jimmy Phelps (Previous: 9): Phelps’ best finish came at his former Saturday night hometrack, in 10th place at Land of Legends. Phelps otherwise finished outside of the top 10 at Cornwall and Mohawk. Phelps did pick up a pair of heat race wins between Mohawk and Land of Legends. Phelps will look to rebound and build momentum in his backyard at Weedsport, where he last won at Weedsport with the Super DIRTcar Series in 2022. Phelps had a DNF earlier this season at Weedsport. In 2024, Phelps had a pair of top 5 finishes between Autodrome Drummond and at Brockville.
10. Jack Lehner (Previous: UR): Lehner was able to string together a pair of strong runs between Mohawk and Land of Legends this past month. The “Ginga Ninja” came away with a top 10 finish at Land of Legends Raceway, his third top 10 on the season. Lehner in the 2025 season has three top 10 finishes, and sits 10th in the championship standings so far. In May, Lehner came away with a hard charged 11th place finish, gaining 11 positions. Lehner’s best finish on the trip to Canada in 2024, was an 11th place finish at Autodrome Drummond.
On The Radar:
Tim Sears Jr.: It was a tough go around for Sears Jr, with his best finish being a top 10 at Mohawk. Sears Jr had a 15th place finish at Land of Legends, and a DNF at Cornwall last month. Sears Jr will look to rebound at Weedsport, where he has won before, last winning there in 2021. At Autodrome Drummond and Brockville, Sears Jr does have starts and top 5 and top 10 finishes as well.
Weekly Regulars: When the Super DIRTcar Series rolls into town, the stars of the series are sometimes the heavy favorites to win. This year so far, six different winners in 9 races, the only repeat winner being Stewart Friesen with 4 wins. Mario Clair, fresh off a win at Cornwall in June will be a favorite at Autodrome Drummond where he races weekly. Michael Parent defended his home track last year at Autodrome Drummond as well, winning it over Mat Williamson and the stars of the Super DIRTcar Series. Alex Payne was the Canadian Classic in 2024 at Brockville as an outside invader. Keep an eye out for those home track regulars in the coming weeks to defend their homes.
The Super Dirt Series rolls into Weedsport, Saturday July 26th, then heads to Autodrome Drummond and Brockville Ontario Speedway for three days of racing. Kicking it off at Autodrome Drummond on Monday and Tuesday, July 28th and July 29th, followed by July 30th at Brockville. Check back in early August after these races, for our next edition of power rankings for the Super DIRTcar Series.
