Herrington Clinches 5th Brockville Title, Caps Weekend with Victory Lap
Story By: TIM BALTZ – BROCKVILLE, ON – It was nearly a picture-perfect weekend of racing for the Kim and Dan Dawdy owned number 88Z DIRTcar Sportsman and driver Bobby Herrington. The team had a great weekend of racing accomplishing one of their season long goals in the process.
Saturday night the weekend started at the Brockville Ontario Speedway and the 40 lap Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series finale for the Sportsman division. Bobby came into the evening 25 points out of the title chase for the Ogilvie’s Series and while a bit out of the chase for the series, the track title battle was the main goal, needing to leave Brockville with at least a 66-point lead to secure a 5th consecutive Brockville Speedway track championship.
For the 7th time this season Bobby started out the night claiming a qualifying heat win in heat race number three and with the heads up start, this put him third on the grid for the 40-lap event.
When the green flew Bobby was able to maintain the number three spot through nearly the entire distance, staying in sight of the lead battle between series points leader Gavin Eisele and Dylan Kirkland. In a race that saw plenty of attrition during the night, Bobby was able to get to the checkers in the number three spot, but due to Gavin Eisele failing the post-race weigh in, Bobby would be credited with another runner up finish behind Dylan Kirkland, who grabbed his first career win and the Ogilvie’s championship in the process. However, runner up for Bobby in the feature was good enough to secure a 5th straight track title.
The next evening at the Cornwall Motor Speedway Bobby would have another successful outing in the 25 lap event. In several starts this season at Cornwall, Bobby has had great runs but has not been able to get to victory lane. This past Sunday he changed all that by scoring his 1st win at the track and 10th trip to victory lane in the last 5 seasons.
Overall, the weekend was a success and with the track championship secured, Bobby and the entire Dawdy Racing Team can go into the weekend only needing to focus on winning the race, which they will try to do this coming Saturday night at “The BOS.”
The Kim and Dan Dawdy owned team and their driver Bobby Herrington thank everyone for their support each and every week, as they continue to chase more checkered flags, as now a 5-time Sportsman track champion at Brockville.
