Story By: JOE COOK / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – The Kim and Brad Herrington Modified Race Team needed some good luck. This past Saturday night, which is exactly what happened as Jake Dgien made his return to victory lane in the Herrington owned machine as the team has dealt with motor problems all year long.

Jason Andrews of Lehighton, Pa. led the field around the first circuit, then the caution lights flew after only one lap. On the restart, Ron Cartwright Jr was able to make the most of it and rocket to the front. Cartwright led the next five laps then on lap seven, Dgien was able to pull up to the back bumper of Cartwright. Out of turn two Dgien motored around the Cartwright machine to overtake the top spot. Dgien proved to be the dominating car pulling out to a four second advantage to secure his first win of 2025.

Ron Cartwright Jr. finished in the runner up spot. The final podium position went to Jason Andrews. Brian Doolittle rebounded nicely for a solid fourth place finish, while Donnie Lawson rounded out the top 5.

The Southern Tier Customs RUSH Crate Late Models were the next feature event and Troupsburg’s Steve Lebarron put on a clinic to collect his fourth win of the season.
By the end of the 20-lap feature, Lebarron had over a straightaway lead, as he tries to run down the point leader, Brett Marlatt who came home in the runner-up slot.

Brian Knowles finished third in the Tony Kelley owned machine. Rickie Loucks and Marshall O’Brien finished fourth and fifth respectively in the green to checkered feature event.
Earl Zimmer has been looking for redemption in his IMCA Modified. Earlier in the year, Zimmer looked to be poised to visit victory lane, however, the drive shaft would let go and retire him for the night. Tonight, Zimmer found that redemption as he finally found victory lane at the Woodhull Raceway. However, it was not without challenges, by the end of the feature event Zimmer was riding around with a broken rear end but he was able to hold on just long enough to hold off second place running Tyler Belcher.

The point leader coming into the event, Jakub Ingham, was able to drive from his tenth starting position to complete the podium. Jay McConnell came home fourth with Keith Lamphere completing the top five.

In the Hometown Excavation Crate Sportsman feature event, the newly married, Isabel Brown (formerly Barron) found her way to victory lane. The young lady had not been behind the wheel of a race car since the beginning of the season after winning on opening night April 19.

After a lengthy hiatus Brown showed she is still a force to be reckoned with picking up her second win of the season. Kenny Peoples Jr. had to settle for the runner-up position, while Todd Titus finished third. Fourth place went to Braylon Lawson who had one of his better runs of the season. Tim Guild completed the top five.

In the Joe Willcox Performance Automatics Street Stock feature event, Teddy Morseman and Dale Houghtaling battled for the lead for the first half of the race. However, with the leaders battling that allowed Woodhull ace Glenn Whritenour to close the gap. Whritenour was able to power to the top spot making it a perfect four for four in feature events at the Woodhull Raceway.

Brian Butler continued his good finishes lately finishing second with third going to point leader, Teddy Morseman. Dan Gardner came home in fourth place as Adam Leubner completed the top five finishers.

The final feature of the night belonged to the Ladd Rd. Auto Hobby Stocks with Joe Birdsall and Brian Austin leading the field to green from their front row starting positions.
Austin led the first half of the race with many restarts to deal with. Finally, the top came in for “Highside” Joe Birdsall. Birdsall was able to run the high groove to get around Austin to take the lead. After more yellow flags, no one was able to get past Birdsall, and he found victory lane for the fourth time this season.

The ever-consistent Scott Brown finished in the runner-up slot as Jason Warner finished third to round out the podium.

Reese Hackett and Cannon Palmer completed the top five.

Congratulations to all competitors.
