Tobias Classic Set for This Sunday at Action Track USA
Story By: BARRY ANGSTADT / ACTION TRACK USA – KUTZTOWN, PA – Following another rainy Wednesday that forced cancellation of the salute to Flemington Speedway, the focus has turned quickly toward this Sunday, August 17, at Action Track USA on the Kutztown Fairgrounds.
The Dick Tobias Classic, featuring the IMT USAC East Coast Sprint Cars, the All Pro SpeedSTRs, and the Hyper Racing 600 Sprints, will take center stage at Berks County’s Baddest Bullring. Warm-ups begin at 6:30 p.m., and each of the evening’s premier divisions will compete in qualifying events followed by 30 lap features.
A couple of Action Track USA regulars, Kenny Miller III and Briggs Danner, will lead the USAC East Coast contingent into Kutztown. Miller won last year’s Tobias Classic, and he’s already a two-time winner in this year’s East Coast series, including a triumph last Saturday at New Egypt, NJ.
Danner will be making the long trek home from Illinois to compete in Sunday’s race. He’s taking part in a USAC Silver Crown event on Saturday at the Illinois State Fairgrounds—a one mile dirt track. Danner is a three-time victor when USAC East Coast competes in Kutztown, but he’s yet to drive to victory lane in the Dick Tobias Classic.
Steven Drevicki, from Reading, leads the IMT USAC East Coast point standings by 74 over the organization’s President, Ed Aikin. Drevicki has two wins this season and he’s won in a SpeedSTR at Action Track USA, but is still searching for his first Sprint Car triumph at the speedway located across from Kutztown University.
New Jersey’s Christopher Allen Jr. had a big weekend in USAC East Coast competition, finishing fifth at Big Diamond on Friday, then runner-up to Miller on Saturday. Allen won the USAC East Coast Iron Cowboy Classic at Action Track USA in 2022.
Joining the wingless 360 Sprint Car group on Sunday will be the All Pro SpeedSTRs and the ever popular Hyper Racing 600 Sprints. Bobby Butler is the most recent SpeedSTR winner at Action Track USA, and he’s also pulled off a USAC East Coast victory this season at Clinton County. He will most likely be doing double-duty on Sunday.
There will also be a matinee event beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. The winged 270 Micro Sprints, All Star and Junior Slingshots will race in the afternoon—and admission to the grandstands is absolutely free for the matinee. Pit passes are good for both afternoon and evening shows.
The pits will reopen at 4:30 p.m. for the evening’s Tobias Classic. Spectator gates swing open at 5:30, and warm-ups begin at 6:30.
For the evening program, Adult General Admission is $25 (with a $2 discount for Seniors). Youth between six and 12 years-old get in for $10, while children five and under will be admitted free.
