DIRTcar Sportsman Classic 75 Returns to Weedsport’s Cavalcade Cup this Saturday, September 6
Story By: DAN KAPUSCINSKI / WEEDSPORT SPEEDWAY – WEEDSPORT, NY – The 11th edition of the prestigious Sportsman Classic 75, presented by Stirling Lubricants, will take place this Saturday, September 6 as part of the Cavalcade Cup at Weedsport Speedway.
Once again, a pivotal stop on the DIRTcar Sportsman Championship Series schedule, the Sportsman Classic 75 will pay a lucrative $2,500 to the winner.
“All these years later the Sportsman Classic remains a staple of our schedule here at Weedsport,” said Weedsport Speedway promoter, Jimmy Phelps. “It was always Al Heinke’s vision to highlight the up-and-coming racers of the sport here at Weedsport and we will keep that tradition alive this Saturday.”
Previous champions include James Michael Friesen, Dave Marcuccilli, Ronnie Davis III, Jackson Gill, Zachary Payne, Cody McPherson and most recently, Richard Murtaugh III, who has won consecutive titles.
Murtaugh joins Marcuccilli as the only other driver to win the race in consecutive years, and now will aim to tie Marcuccilli on the event’s all-time win list.
Gavin Eisele, who took second in last year’s running of the Sportsman Classic, is the current DIRTcar Sportsman Series point leader heading into the weekend over Tristan Ladouceur, Shane Pecore, Tyler Corcoran and Emmett Waldron.
Jessica Power, Murtaugh, Zach Buff, Tavien Blowers and Nigel Pendykoski fill the top ten in series points as of September 3.
Joining the series front runners are expected to be Austin Germinio and Mike Fowler, as well as former Classic champion, Cody McPherson.
This year’s Cavalcade Cup at Weedsport Speedway will also see quite a bit extra on the line for the Super DIRTcar Series, as a winner’s prize of $17,600 will be offered to the first driver to see the checkered flag in their 100-lap main event on Saturday.
If that’s not enough, fans will also be treated to the postponed CRSA Sprint Car main event held over from July 26.
Tickets for Weedsport’s Cavalcade Cup 100 can be purchased online by clicking the Tickets tab on the top right-hand corner of the Weedsport Speedway website at www.weedsportspeedway.com.
Reserved seating is set at $40 with adult general admission being $35. Youth general admission (11-17) is $15 with kids 10 and under, FREE.
Advance sale adult reserved and GA tickets are available online at a $5 discount through August 31.
Member pit pass pricing is $40 with non-member admission set at $45.
Pit gates are set to open on September 6 at 4 p.m. with grandstand gates opening at 5 p.m. and racing set to start at 7 p.m.
