Story By: ROBERT HILL JR. / MOHAWK INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY – AKWESASNE, NY – Mohawk International Raceway played host to a massive opening night of our Mega Race Weekend as north of 180 entries across 5 divisions flooded the pit area and overflowed into the infield, creating an action-packed night of entertainment for a fantastic crowd of race fans.

Limited Sportsman showed big numbers with 27 entries. The 3 heat wins on the night would go to Jackson Welling, Kyle Reif, and Grayson Adderley. Welling and Reif would lead the 20-lap feature event to the green flag. Welling would jump out to the early race lead in his Dale Planck tribute ride over Adderley and Reif. Caution would fly on lap #4 for Daylon Ezard, stopped against the outside wall in turn #4. On the restart, Welling would jump out to the lead before another caution would fly again on the 4th lap for a multi-car incident, collecting Sarah-Ann Lauziere, Justin Lazore, and others at the top of turn #4. Welling would lead the single-file restart with 16 laps to go and pull away before lapped traffic brought Welling and Adderley back together. In the end, it would be Jackson Welling picking up his 3rd victory of 2025.

Mini-stocks would have a big turnout of drivers on night #1 of the mega race weekend, with 29 cars in the pits. The 4 heat wins went to Curtis Smith, Antoine Dumochel, CJ Lavair, and Dominik Blais. Smith and Dumochel would lead the 29-car field to the green flag for the 20-lap feature race. Dumochel would get off to a good start before an opening lap yellow slowed the field for Lavair, who was sideways in turn #2. On the restart, Dumochel would jump out to a lead over Blais before Lavair went up in smoke, bringing out another quick caution. Lap #3 would see the field restart once again, with Dumochel clearing out to another lead before multiple spins brought out a lap 4 yellow once again. Dumochel would get a good launch on the ensuing restart and hold on to capture the win and a $1,000 payday.

DIRTCar Sportsman were the highlight division on the night, with 55 cars on the MIR grounds for this round of the DIRTCar Sportsman Championship series. Five heat races set the qualifiers for the feature event, with heat wins going to Richard Murtaugh, Travis Bruno, Gavin Eisele, Tristan Ladoucer, and Shane Pecore. Dan Ferguson would be the beneficiary of the redraw, claiming the pole with Murtaugh alongside him for the initial start. Murtaugh would jump out to the early lead before a lap 3 caution froze the field, as Dan Rief and Greg Snyder came together at the top of the backstretch. On the restart, Murtaugh would get a good jump, but another yellow would slow the field again. Murtaugh would set a blistering pace on the following restart, pulling away from Tristan Ladoucer. Pecore would rapidly ascend his way through the field, but neither Ladoucer nor Pecore would have anything for Murtaugh as he snagged the DIRTcar Sportsman series feature.

Thirty-six DIRTCar 358 Modifieds would be on hand for the Ovide Doiron Memorial Race. Heat wins went to Carey Terrance, Tim Fuller, Billy Dunn, and Louis Jackson Jr. Nick Heywood and Tyler Meeks would lead the field to the green flag for the 40-lap Ovide Doiron Memorial Race. Meeks would jump out to the early race lead over Joey Ladoucer. Fuller would get by Ladoucer and work his way up to 2nd, eventually surpassing Meeks for the race lead at lap 18. Yellow would fly for the first time on lap 31 as Ladoucer slowed on the backstretch. Fuller and Dunn would bring the field back to green with 8 laps to go. Fuller would jet out to a large lead over Dunn, while Raabe would close in for 3rd with 5 to go. Tim Fuller would hold on to take the Ovide Doiron Memorial.

The PM Promotions Pro-Stock series would see 35 pro-stocks entered for the evening’s festivities, with heat wins going to Bastien Caron, Sid Harmer Jr., Marc Lalonde, and Denis Gauvreau. Yves Hamel and Zack Daniels would lead the field to the green flag for their 25-lap feature, with Daniels inching ahead to the early lead. Bruno Cyr would close in and start a battle for the lead around lap 6. Daniels and Cyr would continue to battle for the top position before Cyr flipped in turn 2, bringing out a red flag. Daniels and Caron would lead the field back to green with 6 laps to go. Caron would take the lead on the backstretch and hold on to collect the victory.
