Weedsport Doubleheader to Feature Future Stars & Modified Racing’s Best this Sunday
Column By: Dan Kapuscinski/ WEEDSPORT SPEEDWAY – WEEDSPORT, N.Y. – Weedsport Speedway is set to offer a full day of action this Sunday, September 28 as both Weedsport Kartway and The Port will take the green flag on what looks to be a beautiful afternoon and evening.
Weedsport Kartway will kick off the day as the sports up and coming stars are scheduled to contend in the Summer Nationals, which was rescheduled due to a rainout on July 13. A total of 12 divisions will hit the track on Sunday, with qualifying set to begin at 11 a.m.
Junior drivers between the ages of 4 and 15 will thrill those in attendance, as they compete for both points racing awards and PRO prize money. The day’s featured event for adults will be the $1,000 to win PRO Clone 375 main event.
Current kartway point leaders consist of Clark McGruder (Jr. Red Clone), Eli Reid (Jr. Green Clone), Laina Stewart (Jr. Purple Clone), Joey Surman (Jr. Blue Clone), Seth Whitney (Clone Light and Clone Heavy) and Trent Smith (Clone Super Heavy).
A host of drivers competing at the speedway later on Sunday evening will have come from Weedsport Kartway, or karting in general, including the likes of Richard Murtaugh III, Logan Brown, Teddy Clayton, Gavin Eisele, Nigel Pendykoski, Tyler Stevenson, Hunter Hollenbeck and more.
All those attending the kartway event on Sunday will be required to purchase a $20 pit pass, as the entire property will be considered the pit area. However, everyone with a kartway pit pass will be granted FREE general admission seating at the speedway that evening.
Sunday evening’s ‘Encore 50’ at Weedsport Speedway will be a DIRTcar main event paying $5,000 to win and $500 to start with a 358-Modified bonus to the highest three finishers. DIRTcar legal 358s or W-16 engines will be permitted, weighing in at 2,450 lbs. The bonuses will be set at $300, $200 and $100 respectively.
The DIRTcar Sportsman Series Sportsman Classic 75 will remain on the schedule, unaltered. The event will pay $2,500 to the winner, counting toward the overall Sportsman Series championship.
Fans will also be treated to the CRSA Sprint Car main event, held over from July 26.
Pre-sale tickets for the speedway are available by clicking the Tickets tab on the Weedsport Speedway website at www.weedsportspeedway.com on Thursday, September 11.
General admission tickets will also be available at the gate on race day. There will be no reserved seating. Adult general admission will be set at $25 with kids ages 18 and under, admitted FREE.
Member pit pass pricing is $35 with non-member admission set at $40.
Pit gates are set to open on September 28 at 3 p.m. with hot laps beginning at 5 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m. Bill Ali will be the day’s live performer in the midway.
