Column By: Jim Clarke / CLARKE MOTORSPORTS COMMUNICATIONS – BROCKVILLE, ON There has always been a place for talented young drivers in the local racing ranks.

After advancing through the track’s go kart and Novice Sportsman divisions, Melcolm Banks made his first start in the Brockville Ontario Speedway 358 Modified class during the 2025 schedule. Although he has yet to claim a feature event win, the talented youngster from Portland, Ontario finished 10th in the overall standings, netting a pair of top 10 efforts in a field that saw nearly 35 different runners score points in at least a single event. He was also 13th in the final Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series points.

Along the way, the pilot of the No. M75 Small Block Modified cracked the starting field in each of the track’s 2025 Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series dates and also made history as the youngest ever race winner at Brockville, taking the checkered flag in a Novice Sportsman feature event August 10th of 2024 at the age of 12. Away from the comfort of his home track, Banks was 13th in the 2025 75 lap Applefest Shootout for 358 Modifieds at Brighton Speedway.

“I can’t think of anywhere I’d rather be than at the racetrack with my family and friends every weekend,” said Melcolm Banks, who is getting ready for another season in Brockville Ontario Speedway’s DIRTcar 358 Modified division. “The Banks family has a rich heritage in the sport. Ab and Ed Banks were weekly competitors at the former Kingston Speedway, while my grandfather and father raced at Brockville before me. I’m lucky to have some great racing history to build on.”

With the regular season kick-off at the popular Southeastern Ontario raceway coming up Melcolm Banks will head into opening night with sponsorship backing from Kason Farm Inc, King Edward Auto & Performance, CHE – Cylinder Head Engineering, Baker’s Feed Store Ltd., Nasa Global, D&J Transportation, Herlehy Home Hardware, Willard’s Bakery, Hewitt’s Livestock, French’s Trucking, Lifetime Cemetery Memorials, RL Asphalt, Levac Propane, Willow’s Agri Services, Milk, Welch’s Drywall, A1 Siding and Clarke Motorsports Communications.

With the 2026 season at Brockville Ontario Speedway taking the green flag Saturday, May 16th with the opening round of the Ogilvie’s Auto & Fleet Triple Crown Series, family, friends and fans can keep an eye on the young 14-year-old’s 2nd season of action at the track or follow the team’s weekly progress through the ‘BanksRacing75’ page on Facebook.
