RPW Exclusive: Sheldon Haudenschild Victorious at Volusia’s Bike Week Jamboree
Column By: JACOB DOVE / RPW – BARBERVILLE, FL – Sunday in Barberville, Florida not only saw 31 Sprint Cars take on the world’s fastest half mile but also featured a great crowd of race fans to enjoy the first night of the Bike Week Jamboree.
Coming off a successful DIRTcar Nationals where many people regarded it as “the best racing they’ve seen at Volusia in a while”. Bike Week in Daytona brought a lot of attention and interest to Volusia Speedway Park where the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars returned for more racing action.
Wooster Ohio’s Sheldon Haudenschild didn’t exactly have the start to the 2026 season that he hoped for at DIRTcar Nationals. However, it’s to be expected while getting adjusted to a new team at KCP Racing. The #18 team led by Kyle Ripper have worked tremendously to get Haudenschild comfortable behind the wheel in a short amount of time.
Haudenschild started out the night qualifying 2nd quickest overall, won his heat race, finished 1st in the dash, and held on after 25 laps to get the feature victory last night. Haudenschild looks to continue building that confidence and momentum needed to keep competing for wins behind the wheel of the KCP #18.
Rounding out the podium of the evening was David Gravel in 2nd and Carson Macedo in 3rd. Gravel set the quickest lap time of the night and won his heat race. However, with the redraw giving him a 6th place start in the dash it made it harder to race up towards the front. Gravel would still finish runner-up and is still searching for his first victory at Volusia in 2026.
Carson Macedo has consistently been on the podium at Volusia so far in 26’ and found himself back up towards the front battling for a win. Macedo was able to pass Haudenschild on a restart, but a caution flew prior to the completion of the lap and he had to give his spot back to Haudenschild.
Expect to see all three podium finishers from Sunday night to be racing it out for the Monday night feature victory of the Bike Week Jamboree during tonight’s action.
