JACKPOT: Corey Day Hustles to Eagle Raceway Redemption in Speedway Motors Spring Jackpot
COLUMN BY: HIGH LIMIT RACING – EAGLE, NB – Corey Day was as motivated as ever when he rolled into the pit area of Eagle Raceway on Tuesday night, and it paid off in the form of victory in the Speedway Motors Spring Jackpot.
The 20-year-old sensation felt the need for redemption at the Eagle, Nebraska bullring after he flipped while battling for the lead of last year’s $55,555-to-win Eagle Nationals. The Jason Meyers Racing No. 14 team found exactly that as they charged from fifth-to-first and became the third different leader of a hectic 30-lapper.
At the beginning, Carson Macedo drove the Jason Johnson Racing No. 41 from third-to-first on the opening lap before Brad Sweet quickly rallied aboard the Silva Motorsports No. 94 and snatched control away the next time by. “The Big Cat” held the lead for a handful of more circuits before Day came charging on the Lap 7 restart and took it away.
Once out front, the Clovis, California native survived restart-after-restart and a few red flag stoppages to score his 13th career Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing win. The Roto-Rooter Midweek Series win sent him to Whiskey Myers Victory Lane for the second time this season – making it a pair of wins in four starts with High Limit.
Brad Sweet settled for runner-up honors after leading six laps in his debut aboard the Finley Farms No. 94 owned by Paul Silva. The 2024 High Limit champion has now finished 4th-2nd-4th-2nd in four tries at Eagle Raceway.
Rounding out the podium was Tanner Thorson aboard the Rod Gross Motorsports No. 88, marking his series-best fifth of the year. The Minden, Nevada native strengthened his hold on the Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing championship lead with a 54-point cushion now.
Closing out the top-five was two more Californians with Lemoore’s Carson Macedo in fourth aboard the Jason Johnson Racing No. 31 and Fresno’s Giovanni Scelzi in fifth with the Spire Motorsports, Chili’s Grill & Bar No. 77.
Finishing out the top-10 at Eagle was Ryan Timms in sixth, Hank Davis in seventh, Rico Abreu in eighth, Tyler Courtney in ninth, and Joel Myers Jr. in tenth.
