Batman Schools The Field At Albany-Saratoga

Batman, of course is Peter Britten who dominated the night’s DIRTcar Modified event to claim his first win of the season and 20^th of his career at The Great Race Place.

C.G. Morey and rookie Dylan Grogan led the field to the green in the Emerick Associates feature event with Morey taking the early lead over Grogan and Josh Masterson. Justin Stone brought out the caution flag shortly after lap one was completed with a flat, left front tire.

When racing resumed Morey and Grogan battled for the top spot only to be interrupted by Masterson and Rich Ronca slowing. While under caution, Grogan came to a stop in turn three…restarted and then came to a stop again. Grogan was pushed back to the pit area and retired from the event with fuel pump issues.

On the restart Andrew Buff moved into the race lead with Jack Lehner taking over second and Peter Britten moving into third. Britten had the #21A machine hooked up on the outside and quickly closed on Lehner. On lap six Britten took over the number two position, forcing Lehner back to third.

A lap later Britten had caught and began to challenge Buff for the race lead. On lap eight he would take the top spot.

With ten laps in the books Britten held a comfortable lead over Buff, Jeremy Pitts, Lehner and Brian Calabrese. Pitts made a move on Buff for the third position on lap 12 and made the pass a lap later. Jack Lehner’s top five run came to an end on lap 14 when he slowed on the frontstretch, bringing out the caution.

On the restart Britten continued to lead over Pitts, Calabrese, Buff and Matt DeLorenzo. Calabrese quickly started to challenge Pitts for the second position while DeLorenzo took fourth from Buff.

Another driver on the move was DeLorenzo. The former track champion closed in on Pitts and Calabrese quickly and by lap 24 was past them both to move into the second position.

Britten meanwhile was a straightaway ahead of the DeLorenzo. DeLorenzo, the current points leader, could not shake Calabrese who challenged him for the position.

With five laps to go DeLorenzo had opened a gap between himself and Calabrese and slightly closed on Britten in traffic.

Britten was too strong and led the rest of the way unchallenged to claim the win. DeLorenzo finished second with Calabrese third, Mike Mahaney fourth and Pitts fifth. Heat races for the 25 DIRTcar Modifieds were won by Buff, Grogan and Stone. The Four States Enterprises Dash went to Lehner.

Katrina LeClaire won the 25-lap DIRTcar Sportsman feature event. Dakota Green and Cam Van Zandt used their front row starting positions to settle into the top two spots at the drop of the green. The duo held those positions for the first eight laps before the caution flag waved for a slowing Mike Benson.

On the restart Green held the lead however LeClaire moved into the number two position. LeClaire took the lead from Green on lap 17 with Bodie Marks and Craig Wholey following past.

LeClaire held off a determined Marks and Connor Crane over the last eight laps to bring home her first career DIRTcar Sportsman win. Marks finished second with Crane third, Tim Hartman, Jr., fourth and Wholey fifth.

Four heat races were held to qualify the 34-car field, with wins going to Green, Dan Grignon, Tanner Coon and Cam Van Zandt. The last chance qualifier went to Jon Miller.

Scott Duell dominated the DIRTcar Pro Stock feature event. Duell took the lead early and dominated the 25-lap event. Duell picked up his eighth career division win over Brandon Emigh, Caden Dumblewski, Jordan Modiano and Rob Yetman. DIRTcar Pro Stock qualifiers went to Jaxson Ryan and Brandon Emigh.

James Galarneau won the 20-lap Limited Sportsman feature event. Galarneau was followed across the line by Jaden Pierce, Alex Smith, Sloan Cherko and Michael Baker. Heat races for the 27-car field were won by Pierce, Kyle Lanfear and Galarneau.

Shane Wetherington won the 20-lap Street Stock feature event. With the win, Wetherington becomes the first car to win the Street Stock feature this season. Tyler Irwin, who finished fourth, had been perfect on the season with his truck. Josh Hemming finished second with Josh Bussino third, Irwin fourth and Andrew Fitzgerald fifth. The heat races were won by Bussino and Chris Murray.

J.P. Corrow won the DIRTcar 4-Cylinder feature event. Corrow was the overall winner with John Mason second, Josh Ramsey third, Ben Ladd fourth and Randy Tubbs fifth. Ladd was the first Single Cam driver across the line.

The Albany-Saratoga Speedway returns to action on Friday, May 22nd with all weekly divisions in action plus the DiCarlo’s Auto Body DIRTcar 358 Modified division. Pit gates open at 3pm, grandstand gates open at 5pm with hot laps rolling off at 6pm. Racing is set to begin at 7pm.
