Dylan Swiernik wins Don Gillette Memorial at Brewerton Speedway
COLUMN BY: Robert Kenney Jr. / BREWERTON SPEEDWAY – CENTRAL SQUARE, NY – A packed grandstand and an action-filled night of racing greeted fans Friday night at Brewerton Speedway as they played host to the A-Verdi Storage Container Empire Super Sprints Don Gillette Memorial. From dramatic flips to late-race battles and hard-fought feature wins, the “D-Shaped Dirt Demon” delivered excitement in every division.
The headline event belonged to Dylan Swiernik, who captured the Don Gillette Memorial victory with the Empire Super Sprints after an intense feature filled with sliders, side-by-side racing, and nonstop action throughout the field. Zach Sobotka and Davie Franek rounded out the podium.
One of the biggest moments of the night came when Dillon Paddock clipped the inside tire entering turn three and bicycled upside down, bringing out a brief red flag. Paddock climbed from the car following the incident as safety crews quickly attended to the scene before racing resumed.
In the Tracey Road DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds, Ronnie Davis III scored the feature victory after a race filled with restarts and changing fortunes. Todd Root showed early speed and led portions of the event before fading back to a fifth-place finish by the checkered flag. Another restart accident near the flagstand collected both Larry Wight and Alan Fink. Adam Roberts had a strong rebound after his crash last week to come away with a second-place finish.
The Dot Foods DIRTcar Sportsman feature provided another dramatic finish as Tony Finch II chased down Quinn Wallis in the closing laps. Finch found the speed he needed late in the race and completed the winning move in the final circuits to secure the Sportsman victory.
The AmeriCU Mod Lite STARS feature started with chaos as Matt Kitts went upside down in turn one on the opening lap, immediately bringing out caution flags. Once racing settled in, Mike Mullen worked his way to the front and powered to the feature win to cap off the night.
With packed stands, multiple lead changes, dramatic crashes, and exciting feature finishes, the Don Gillette Memorial once again proved why the Empire Super Sprints stop at Brewerton Speedway remains one of the most anticipated events on the calendar.
