Appalachian Mountain Speedweek Invades Port Royal Speedway Saturday Night; Beach Night Promotions Highlight Family-Fun Evening

COLUMN BY: Brad Strawser / PORT ROYAL SPEEDWAY – PORT ROYAL, PA  – Port Royal Speedway will welcome the stars of the Appalachian Mountain Late Model Speedweek series this Saturday, June 6, as the Juniata County oval hosts a three-division program featuring the Speedweek super late models, Weikert’s Livestock 410 sprint cars, and wingless sportsman.

Saturday’s event will also feature the Harshbarger’s Sub N’ Malt & Port Royal Speedway Ministries Beach Night, providing fans with a variety of summer-themed giveaways and activities throughout the evening.

The Appalachian Mountain Late Model Speedweek tour, whose Port Royal stop is sponsored by VP Racing Fuels, brings some of the region’s top super late model competitors to “The Speed Palace” as the series make their 2nd stop of their schedule. Defending series champion Gregg Satterlee enters the event looking to continue his success at Port Royal Speedway after capturing last year’s Speedweek stop at the Juniata County facility.

In addition to the Speedweek competitors, fans will also be treated to a full program of Weikert’s Livestock 410 sprint car racing competing for $5,000 to win along with the wingless sportsman division.

Beach Night festivities will provide plenty of entertainment away from the racing action. Fans will have opportunities to win 160 beach towels, 200 beach toys, and a variety of summer-themed mugs, while a special beach-themed raffle will also be conducted throughout the evening.

Young fans can enjoy an expanded Kids’ Zone featuring hula hoops, jump ropes, and hopscotch activities. A special highlight of the evening will be the raffle of a 20-inch girls’ Tempest bicycle, courtesy of Barney and Cole Baker of B&B Sealcoating.

General admission for the event is $25, with students ages 13-17 admitted for $10. Children ages 12 and under are admitted free. Pit admission is $40.

Pit gates will open at 4 p.m., followed by general admission gates at 5 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled for 6 p.m., with racing action beginning at 7 p.m.
