Batman Returns At Albany-Saratoga

Peter Britten picked up his 21^st career feature event win Friday night after battling both Don and Rich Ronca.

The brothers Ronca – Don and Rich brought the DIRTcar Modified feature event to the green flag with Don taking the early lead over his younger brother. Rich would come right back and take the lead on lap two.

With the veteran Ronca brothers out front, division rookie Dylan Grogan secured the third position over Matt DePew and fellow rookie Andrew Buff. The caution flag waved on lap six for third generation driver Justin Stone who slowed in turn two.

On the restart the Ronca brothers continued to battle for the top spot with Rich narrowly holding the position. Buff took over third with Peter Britten fourth and Grogan fifth. Current points leader Matt DeLorenzo would drop Grogan from the top five on lap 12.

A lap later Britten had reeled in not only Buff but both Ronca brothers. Britten moved into second on lap 15 and set his sights on Rich. DeLorenzo followed him into third. One lap later Britten took over the top spot from Ronca and DeLorenzo moved to second.

By lap 20 Britten and DeLorenzo had opened up a straightaway advantage over third place Buff. Rich Ronca still held the fourth position with Mike Mahaney fifth.

With ten laps to go Britten entered thick lapped traffic. With five cars battling in front of him Britten was able to sneak by in two laps. DeLorenzo made quick work of them as well but when he emerged from the pack, Britten was already nearly a straightaway ahead.

In the end, no one could catch Britten who scored his second win of the season. DeLorenzo had to settle for second with Mahaney third, Buff fourth and Jeremy Pitts fifth.

Don Ronca, Rich Ronca and DeLorenzo won the heat races for the 23-car field. The Four States Enterprises Dash was won by Jack Speshock.

Cody Ochs won the 25-lap DIRTcar Sportsman feature event. Ochs lost the lead and then regained it. Once he put the 02 machine back out front, he was not challenged. Ochs picked up the win over Joe Venditti, Mike Bensen, Nick Brundige and Connor Crane. Heat races for the 34-car field were won by Mike Ballestero, Benson, Ochs and Venditti. The Last Chance Qualifier was claimed by Tim Hartman, Jr.

Matt Tanner won the 25-lap SCONE Sprint Car Series A-Main. Tanner took the lead from Bobby Hackel, IV late in the event to bring home the win. Tyler Chartrand finished second with Chris Donnelly third, Caiden Herbert fourth and Floyd Billington fifth. With 20 drivers on hand the SCONE qualifying events were won by Will Hull and Chartrand. The full SCONE Sprint Car Series results will be released by the series when official.

Shane Henderson took control at the drop of the green with Kim Duell and Jaxson Ryan following. With five laps on the lap counter, Henderson had a comfortable lead over Duell and the rest of the field.

By lap ten Duell had cut the lead down to about three car lengths as they pulled away from the rest of the field. Henderson though pulled away again and by lap 12 had more than half a straightaway advantage over the opening day winner.

Duell closed in a little at the end but it was not enough as Henderson brought home his second career feature event win. Duell finished second with Rich Crane third, Caden Dumblewski fourth and Brandon Emigh fifth. Henderson and Ryan won the DIRTcar Pro Stocks heat races.

Alex Smith won the 20-lap Limited Sportsman feature event. Smith picked up the win over Cordell Younger, Colten Emigh, Kyle Lanfear and Dan O’Dell. The win was Smith’s third of the season. With 24 Limited Sportsman pit side, heat races were won by Bryan Jones, Derrik Emigh and Lanfear.

Chris Murray won the 20-lap Street Stock feature event. Murray survived a lap 19 restart to bring home his second consecutive win. Gary O’Brien finished second with Andrew Fitzgerald third, Tyler Irwin fourth and Damian Ward.

The Albany-Saratoga Speedway returns to action on Friday, June 19th with all weekly divisions in action plus the DIRTcar 358 Modified and DIRTcar 4-Cylinder divisions. Pit gates open at 3pm, grandstand gates open at 5pm with hot laps rolling off at 6pm. Racing is set to begin at 7pm.
