Manitta captures first DIRTcar Sportsman Series victory. RDIII First to win two on the season
COLUMN BY: Robert Kenney Jr. / BREWERTON SPEEDWAY – CENTRAL SQUARE, NY – Fans were treated to a full night of dirt racing action featuring the Tracey Road DIRTcar Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman Series, AmeriCU Credit Union STARS Mod Lites, Mirabito DIRTcar 4-Cylinders, and the Dirt Modified Nostalgia Tour.
The evening opened with the Dirt Modified Nostalgia Tour, bringing a classic feel to the racing program as fans got a look at the machines that helped define the sport’s history. The vintage-style Modifieds rolled onto the speedway to kick off the night, and it was Andy Graves who came out on top.
The DIRTcar Sportsman Series Central Region then delivered one of the most competitive races of the evening. A stacked field of 42 drivers battled for only 30 feature spots, showing just how deep the competition was. When the dust settled, 22-year-old Cody Manitta captured the first DIRTcar Sportsman Series victory of his career in memorable fashion. Manitta had plenty of pressure throughout the feature as heat race winners Quinn Wallis and Hunter Hollenbeck kept him honest every lap. The trio put on a hard-fought battle from start to finish, but Manitta held strong to earn his breakthrough victory.
The Tracey Road DIRTcar Modifieds saw late-race drama unfold. Chris Hulsizer appeared to be in position for the win until a caution set up a crucial restart. Ronnie Davis III, who started 10th, took advantage of the opportunity and made the winning move late to steal the victory. The triumph made Davis the first two-time winner of the season in the Modified division.
In the AmeriCU Credit Union STARS Mod Lites, Mike Mullen continued his strong season. Mullen worked his way around Thomas Mackey for the lead and then had to fend off a late challenge from Zack Babcock to secure his fourth victory of the season.
The night concluded with another impressive charge through the field in the Mirabito DIRTcar 4-Cylinder Super Stocks. Chris Bonoffski started deep in the field from 13th position but steadily worked his way forward before making a dramatic last-lap pass on Brandon Torchia to take the checkered flag. The win marked Bonoffski’s sixth victory in seven races, further cementing his dominance early in the season.
