Sheppard Communication & Security presents New York State Stock Car Association(NYSSCA) Awards Night at Fonda this Saturday
COLUMN BY: Ron Szczerba – FONDA SPEEDWAY – FONDA, NY – The first racing program of the new month of June will take place at the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway this Saturday, June 6 when Sheppard Communication & Security presents a regular show in all divisions. The New York State Stock Car Association (NYSSCA) will also be presenting monetary awards to the top two finishing NYSSCA member drivers in all of the regular divisions.
Regular weekly divisions in action this Saturday will include the Amsterdam Truck Center Modifieds, the Swagger Factory Apparel Sportsman, the Leatherstocking Credit Union Pro Stocks, the Montgomery County Office for Aging Inc. Limited Sportsman, and the Fonda Fair Four Cylinders. Racing is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
The New York State Stock Car Association (NYSSCA) will be presenting monetary awards to drivers who are members of the organization on Saturday evening at Fonda. In each of the feature events in all regular divisions except the Four Cylinders, the top finishing NYSSCA member across the finish line will receive $100 and a NYSSCA hat while the second NYSSCA member to cross the finish line will receive $75 and a NYSSCA hat.
For the Four-Cylinder drivers, the top dual cam NYSSCA member, and the top single cam NYSSCA member will each receive $100 along with a NYSSCA hat. There will also be a drawing for a $50 wild card for all NYSSCA members not already receiving cash.
To be eligible for the NYSSCA awards you need to be a member of the NYSSCA organization but if you are not you may sign up with Fonda Speedway NYSSCA representative Bonnie Mortensen on Saturday at Fonda.
Anyone is eligible to become a NYSSCA member for $25, which helps support the organization’s efforts. In addition to “NYSSCA Night” at all of their member tracks, the organization also offers a benefit fund to injured members. Any member who is out of work due to an injury sustained at a sanctioned racing event receives $150/week for up to 26 weeks once medical documentation has been received by the organization.
The NYSSCA organization will also be presenting the following “Special Awards” at Fonda this Saturday to the following recipients:
Bill & Erik Nelson – Dedication to Racing Award in Memory of Harry Peek
Deb Ward & Corky Warner – Humanitarian Award in Memory of Chaplain David Miller
Dylan Madsen – Outstanding Performance Award
Kenn Van Wert – Lifetime Contribution to Racing Award in Memory of Kenny Shoemaker
Kenny Gates – Dedication to Racing Award in Memory of Jim Langenback

If you are a race fan that gets to the track early, be sure to check out the history of the Fonda Speedway at the Fonda Speedway Museum & Hall of Fame which is located on the Fonda Fairgrounds at the rear of the parking area going down towards turn four. The museum is open from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on race days and admission is free!
Fonda Speedway weekly feature winners, their race teams, and sponsors are invited the following week to display their cars at the museum and watch their feature win on Flo before the races. The victorious car display can begin as early as 3:00, and you are welcome to arrive and stay as late as your schedule allows.
