Spencer Burley Wins CRSA Stop at Ransomville
COLUMN BY: Steve Petty / RANSOMVILLE SPEEDWAY – RANSOMVILLE, NY – Spencerport, NY’s Spencer Burley won the CRSA Sprints feature at the Ransomville Speedway Friday night as iFreeze Storage and Distribution Center presented the racing action. Cody McPherson from St. Catharines, Ontario was victorious in the Stirling Lubricants DIRTcar Sportsman. Chase Kish from Port Colborne, Ontario won the KiPo Chevrolet Street Stock feature. Cody Griffin from Appleton, NY won his first career Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stocks feature. Austin Seburn from Welland, Ontario won the J&D Tires and Service Novice Sportsman.
Darryl Ruggles and Nolan Groves led the A-Verdi Storage Containers CRSA Sprints to the green flag for their main event, with Ruggles in the lead ahead of Spencer Burley, Nolan Groves, Tyler Graves, and Paul Colagiovanni Sr. Alysha Bay moved into the top five on lap three, just as defending Series champion Zach Sobotka raced his way up to fourth place. While working lap traffic on lap eight, Burley would reel in Ruggles for the lead. While the lead duo was in lap traffic, Sobotka would reel in the lead duo after passing Tyler Graves to take over third place. Burley would take over the lead on lap 14 coming off turn two. Sobotka would continue his march towards the front of the field, as he passed Ruggles for second place on lap 18. Burley would go on to score the win, his first at Ransomville.
Kyle Teeter and Martin Polhill brought the Stirling Lubricants DIRTcar Sportsman to the green flag for their feature, with Polhill in the lead ahead of Derek Wagner, Cam Tuttle, Brett Senek, and Jake Bansmer. Following an early Lenco Supply caution, Derek Wagner would take over the lead on lap five, ahead of Polhill, Tuttle, Senek, and Cody McPherson. McPherson would quickly race his way to second place at the midway point and would close in on Wagner. McPherson would take over the lead on lap 14. McPherson would go on to win his fourth feature of the year and 25th of his Ransomville career.
Mike Kelly and Kenny Zimmerman led the KiPo Chevrolet Street Stocks to the green with Butch Zimmerman taking the lead from his third starting spot. Chase Kish started eighth and on lap three was already battling Mike Kelly for second place. Kish would close in on Zimmerman for the lead by the races’ halfway point, ahead of Damian Long, Mike Welch, and John Zimmerman. Kish would take the lead coming to two laps to go. Kish would go on to score his second win of the season.
Cody Griffin and Chris Skobjak brought the Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stocks to the green flag for their 15-lap main event, with Griffin in the lead ahead of Brandon Close, Matt Hornquist, Ben Hornquist, and Jeffrey Wynes. Ben Hornquist would take second away on lap four, with Chris Leone moving into third place after passing Brandon Close. Wynes would take over third on lap 10 and would set his sights on Hornquist for second place. Wynes would move into second place on lap 12, but it was Griffin scoring his first career win.
Austin Seburn and Chris Miller shared the front row for the J&D Tires and Service Novice Sportsman feature, with Seburn in the lead ahead of Miller, Christian Soladay, Lucas Newton, and Russell Friesen. Friesen would take over fourth and then would pass Soladay for third place on lap five. Jacob Flynn would bring out the Lenco Supply caution on lap nine. The final three laps would see Friesen battling with Miller for second, with Seburn taking off in the lead. Seburn would go on to score his second straight win.
Next Friday night, June 12 is the 17th Annual Labor Night at the Races to benefit the United Way of Greater Niagara. Also on the card will be the A-Verdi Storage Containers Next Gen Power Wheels 200. The racing card will feature the Krown Undercoating 358 Modifieds plus the Stirling Lubricants DIRTcar Sportsman, KiPo Chevrolet Street Stocks, Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stocks, and the J&D Tires and Service Novice Sportsman.
