Britten Picks Up Win #3 At Albany-Saratoga; Marc Johnson wins 358, Connor & Rich Crane take Sportsman & Pro Stock Features

A pair of second-generation drivers – Don Ronca and Andrew Buff, led the field of DIRTcar Modifieds to the green with Buff leading the opening lap. With Buff and Ronca running one-two, Ronnie Johnson held the third position over Peter Britten and Jeremy Pitts.

By lap five Ronca, Johnson, Britten, Pitts and point leader Matt DeLorenzo were under a blanket battling for position. Johnson took over second on lap six as Mike Mahaney entered that battle.

As the field completed the tenth lap Johnson was all over Buff for the race lead. Johnson used the low groove to take over the top spot forcing Buff back to second. Peter Britten held on to third with Pitts and DeLorenzo battling for the fourth position.

DeLorenzo secured the fourth position from Pitts on lap 14 and set his sights on the battle for second and third between Buff and Britten. Britten took the position a lap later. As the top four raced single file, Mahaney challenged Pitts for the fifth position. On lap 18 Mahaney took over fifth.

With 20 laps on the scoreboard DeLorenzo challenged Buff for third. He took the position on lap 21. Meanwhile, Britten caught Johnson and began challenging for the race lead. Mahaney also moved into third at this time.

At the ten to go mark there were two interesting battles on the track, each within the top five. There was Johnson battling Britten for the race lead and Mahaney challenging DeLorenzo for third. DeLorenzo and Mahaney are the top two in points.

Britten took the lead on lap 29 and immediately pulled away from Johnson. Once out in front Britten pulled away, picking up the win over Johnson, DeLorenzo, Mahaney and Buff. The three qualifying events for the DIRTcar Modified division were won by Jack Lehner, Buff and Jack Speshock.

Marc Johnson won the DIRTcar 358 Modified feature event. Justin Stone and Marc Johnson led the field to the green with Johnson taking the early lead. Stone had settled into the second position and by lap five rookie Dylan Madsen had control of the third position over Bobby Hackel, IV and Chris Curtis.

The caution waved on lap nine for Jesse Mueller who slowed with a left rear flat tire. When racing resumed Hackel got out of shape in turn four but saved it before causing a major incident. The caution flag did wave.

On the restart Johnson, Stone and Madsen held the top three positions however Hackel had his number 97 wound up on the outside. He took over the third position on lap 12 as Curtis held onto fifth.

Hackel’s hard work was negated on lap 13 when he went too high exiting turn two and went off the backstretch. He continued but fell back to fourth. Hackel took the third position back on lap 19 before losing it to Madsen four laps later.

Johnson meanwhile checked out on the field. He led to the finish to pick up the win over Stone, Madsen, Mike Mahaney and Hackel. Heat races for the 29 DIRTcar 358 Modifieds were won by Walter J. Hammond, Mueller and Hackel.

Connor Crane won the 25-lap DIRTcar Sportsman feature event. Andrew Cormie led the feature event early and opened a half straightaway advantage. Connor Crane though was closing fast and on lap 11 took over the top spot. In the end Crane was the class of the field, picking up the win over Cormie, Tim Hartman, Jr., Mike Benson and Zach Buff.

With 33 DIRTcar Sportsman on hand, qualifying events were won by Benson, Hartman, Chad Gregory and Michael Wagner-Fitzgerald. The Four State Enterprises Dash was won by Hartman. The last chance qualifier was won by Cody Ochs.

Devon Palmer won the 25-lap Limited Sportsman feature event, his second in a row. Cordell Younger was first to lead the 20-lap Limited Sportsman feature event. Devon Palmer took over the top spot on lap two and quickly pulled away. Palmer survived a lap 18 restart to pick up the win over Younger, Colton Emigh, Kirstin Swartz and Adam Tranka. Heat races were won by Bryan Jones, Palmer and Emigh.

Rich Crane won the 25-lap DIRTcar Pro Stock feature event. Crane took the lead on a late race restart and brought home the win. Crane was followed across the line by Jaxson Ryan, Chuck Dumblewski, Brandon Emigh and Caden Dumblewski. DIRTcar Pro Stock heat races were won by Chuck Dumblewski and Crane.

Chris Murray won the 20-lap Street Stock feature event. Murray won the event over Shane Wetherington, Josh Hemming, Josh Bussino and veteran Gary O’Brien. Current points leader Tyler Irwin suffered engine troubles and did not start the feature event.

Glenn Engstrom won the DIRTcar 4-Cylinder feature event. Engstrom was followed across the line by Jeremy Brownell, Josh Ramsey, Ben Ladd and Joe Warren. Ladd was the first Single Cam car across the line.

The Albany-Saratoga Speedway returns to action on Friday, July 17^th with all weekly divisions in action plus the Empire Super Sprints. Pit gates open at 3pm, grandstand gates open at 5pm with hot laps rolling off at 6pm. Racing is set to begin at 7pm.
