Higbie and Green winners at Thunder Mountain Speedway

RPW EXCLUSIVE COLUMN BY: Joe Phillips / RACE PRO WEEKLY – CENTER LISLE, NY –  Cody Higbie was the open Modified winner this past weekend on July 11th at Thunder Mountain Speedway. Higbie started the race in the 3rd spot and quickly worked to the lead. Using the High groove in turns 1 and 2, and the low side in turns 3 and 4, Cody had his Higfab Chassis 97 car on rails. 

In Victory lane, Higbie stated, “ I know I had to make a good start, once I got the lead, I ran the turns high and low. It is nice to turn things around. We had some bad luck here and at Accord Speedway, but it looks like we are turning the page.”

The 35 cap feature was slowed by a caution on lap 20, brung out by Jeff Sheely, in the Circle 38 DKM modified. This bunched up the field, which is something Higbie didn’t want. A strong running Tommy Collins in the 713 car and Alan Barker in the 77 machine were fighting for second and third. Thanks to good restarts, Higbie was able to quickly break away into the open track. 

The DIRTcar sportsman feature saw Jared Green back in victory lane. Green started 5th and was challenged by a resurgent Matt Brewer and TJ Frost. Brewer and Frost started 8th, and 9th respectively and worked their way to the front. Another hard Charger was Cody Jackson, in the 1 car, who started in 15th. The race was not easy as it took several laps to get away from cautions.

During his interview, Green stated “I am exhausted doing these races, but its great to win! “ Green also thanked his Mom and Dad, and said his team “really wants to keep the momentum going.” This is Green’s second feature win this year.

Tyler Talada returned to victory lane with his 600cc Modified, which is styled after a Holstein cow. Modified driver Brandon Loucks has won the past two features and Talada had to work to get this win. Jared Green finished in 2nd with Brandon Loucks in 3rd. 

Saturday also saw the return of the IMCA Modifieds. Michael Roach was the winner followed by Edward Sites and Rodney Morgan in 2nd and 3rd.

In the 600cc Sprints, Ivan Forney took the checkers, followed by Kyle Pierce. The Factory stock winner was Jerry Lobdell JR in the 202L car.
