Kyle Richner, Cody McPherson, Ben Hornquist and Troyer Catalano Score Firecracker Wins at Ransomville
COLUMN BY: Steve Petty / RANSOMVILLE SPEEDWAY – RANSOMVILLE, NY – Kyle Richner from Niagara Falls, NY won his first career Krown Undercoating Modified feature as JW Swanson, Sevenson’s Environmental, and Sunset Bar & Grill presented the racing action at the Ransomville Speedway on Friday night. Cody McPherson from St. Catharines, Ontario won his sixth Stirling Lubricants DIRTcar Sportsman feature of the season. Ben Hornquist from Eden, NY won the Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stocks feature. Troyer Catalano celebrated his birthday in victory lane after winning the J&D Tires and Service Novice Sportsman feature.
John Smith and Kyle Richner led the Krown Undercoating 358 Modifieds to the green flag for their main event, with Smith in the lead ahead of Richner, with Jesse Cotriss and Brad Rouse racing in the top four spots. Richner would take the lead on lap two, with Brad Rouse battling with Smith for the runner-up spot. Ryan Susice would work his way through the field to take over third place on lap seven, with Gary Lindberg in fourth, and Mat Williamson in fifth. Susice would catch Rouse at the midway point to battle for second, as race leader Kyle Richner was pulling away from the field. Rouse, Susice, Lindberg, and Williamson battled for second for much of the race, Richner would score his first career Ransomville feature win.
Steve Miller and Brendan Zimmerman brought the Stirling Lubricants DIRTcar Sportsman to the green flag for their feature, with the caution coming out as Madyson Rouse and Tyler Guzzardi got together in turn one. Both drivers were able to continue racing. The second attempt at the start would see Miller take off in the lead, with Jake Bansmer, Tyler Foster, and Nigel Pendykoski going three wide early on. Foster would take over the lead on lap two and would take off, as Pendykoski and Jake Bansmer raced in second and third respectively. Pendykowski would take the lead away from Foster on lap four, with Derek Wagner moving into third after passing Bansmer. Wagner would take second away from Foster on lap 10, as Cody McPherson would pass both Foster and Wagner to take over second place on lap 12. McPherson would close in on Pendykoski and would take over the lead on lap 18. The Lenco Supply caution would come out on lap 20 as Tyler Foster would hit the turn one wall while running in fourth position. The restart would see McPherson in the lead, and would go on to collect the feature win, his sixth of the season.
Brandon Close and Louis Chiavetta brought the Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stocks to the green flag for their main event, with Ben Hornquist taking the lead away from his third place, ahead of Close and Jeffrey Wynes. Hornquist would hold off Wynes and Close to score his first win of the season.
Christian Soladay and Troyer Catalano shared the front row for the J&D Tires and Service Novice Sportsman feature, with Catalano taking the lead from Soladay on lap two. Vincent Lewis had issues with the left rear on lap eight to bring out the Lenco Supply caution. The restart would see Catalano and Soladay pull away, with Catalano going on to win for the first time in 2026 at The Big R.
Congratulations to Richard and Julie on their gender reveal with the assistance of Brendan Zimmerman, Richard and Julie will be welcoming a baby boy into the world. 10-year-old Sadie Washburn performed the National Anthems during opening ceremonies.
Racing returns to the Big R on Friday July 10, as Niagara Metals and Coppins Service Center presents a full card of racing plus the fan-favorite Autograph Night! Pit gates will open at 5pm, with grandstands opening at 6pm, and racing to begin at 7:15pm.
