RPW Exclusive: Addison Meitzler & Brett Grim Split Twin 20 Sportsman Wins at Grandview – Quotes & Notes with Mark Hackett
RPW EXCLUSIVE COLUMN BY: Mark Hackett – GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY – BECHTELSVILLE, PA – In the first feature of two for the NASCAR Sportsman at Grandview Speedway; A huge front stretch tangle on lap 1 brought out the red flag and involved 14 cars which was half of the field. When racing resumed 19 cars made it back on track, but then Dylan’s Hoch hard contact with the outside wall brought out the 2nd red for the second time on lap 1.
By lap 5 Addison Meitzler found his way to the lead and that’s where he stayed until the checkered flag flew. Joe Toth made a strong run for 2nd place from his 18th starting position, but Addison was checked out to victory lane with nearly a two second margin of victor over Toth.
In the second feature; Brett Grim moved into the lead on lap 3 with Chase Gular in 2nd place which is where they stayed for two cautions and 20 laps. Brett also held nearly a 2 second lead to the checkered flag for the win.
Addison Meitler won the first feature from his 13th starting position. In the 2nd Addison finished 13th.
Back at the trailer Addison commented “Car has been better recently in the heats. Went 9th to 2nd in the heat which put us 13th in the feature. Missed that big wreck but got a piece of it. We bent the RF shock tower, shock, and broke the frame, but it didn’t seem to hurt the handling. Once we got going, I could run all 3 lanes, so I just picked my way to the lead and then set sail. I was just happy to get Dwayne & the team a win.”
Brett Grim won the second feature from his 4th starting position. He also finished 5th in the first feature for a top 5 finish in both twins.
Brett Grim reflected “The last few weeks we’ve found good speed but haven’t had the luck to put it to use. That changed on Saturday and this was the best handling car that I’ve ever had under me. The car was excellent in the heat race and I mainly used the bottom and picked up the win.
“The 1st feature we missed the setup by just a tick and made the wrong tire choice but still came home 5th.”
“In the second feature, we made lots of changes, and what a difference! We got lucky with a great starting position, and I knew I had to make my moves as early as possible. Once I took the lead and got clean air the car was hooked up. I can’t thank my family and sponsors enough; it takes a village to make an operation like this go round. I have 2 really good teachers in my dad and grandfather, and I cannot thank my shock guy Ron Seltmann enough- he has been with me since day 1 and he is very sharp with his stuff.”
Joe Toth finished 2nd from his 18th starting position for his best Grandview finish of the season. Joe faced a very challenging heat race starting in the back and getting sent to the back with 3 laps to go but the 9T fought his way to a transfer position and qualified from his heat race. Joe was involved in the 14 car tangle but able to continue and drove to a 2nd place finish which was his best finish of the season.
In the second feature Chase Gular finished 2nd from his 2nd starting position to post his best finish of the season.
Chase noted “It wasn’t a good night to start off with missing the transfer in heat and then just wasn’t good in the consolation, but we got in the feature.”
“In the first feature I was just happy to survive with all the carnage ended up going from 26th to 13th so first feature wasn’t too bad.”
“We saw we were starting front row in the second feature, so we threw some good tires on and made a few small changes. In the first 2 laps thought I could get ahead of Shannon and pull away, but Brett got around us both on the top and he was really good up there. Once I got to 2nd, I wasn’t really too sure what to do but found some good grip on the top of 3 and 4 that definitely helped keep me in 2nd. Overall, we were really good, but Brett was just faster than us. We’ll work on it and hopefully be better next week.”
In the first twin Adrianna Delliponti finished 3rd from her 8th starting position. In the second feature she finished 6th from her 3rd starting position to post her best night of the season.
Andrianna stated “ We had some frame damage in early spring at Big Diamond that set us back to as recently as last week, but this was a perfect time for us to get back on track. We missed the setup a little bit in the second feature but overall, it was a good night for us.”
In the second twin feature Jordan Henn finished 3rd from his 9th starting position. Jordan did not qualify for the first feature but got into the field as an alternate and made the best of his opportunity finishing 6th from his 27th starting position.
Jordan commented “We didn’t finish heat race with a rf flat. Just missed in consolation by one sport so took the first alternate to hopefully be able to make the second feature and got lucky enough to make the first feature. Hurt myself as I was not really expecting or ready for the 1st feature. Got lucky with avoiding the big one and salvaged the 6th in first feature. Second feature we were more prepared and got up to third and when the track took on rubber and could not got beyond third.”
SPORTSMEN PIT NOTES – 7/25/26
Dylan Hoch returned 4 races ago after a 3 year hiatus from Crate racing and has quickly gotten right back into contention for a weekly win. Dylan was running 3rd when another car shot off the inter-wall and contacted Dylan which violently shot his car into the outer wall coming out of turn 3. Dylan was transferred to a hospital for evaluation and released on Sunday.
In the first twin feature Teague Miller finished 4th from a 22nd starting position for his best back to front run of the season. Then in the 2nd feature he posted an 8th place finish to round out a solid night.
Teague reflected “ When we had went out for the heat race, I felt very comfortable with the car and knew it had a lot of speed. We were in the first heat, which is never ideal as the track is always single file. We tried to make some moves but fell short and had to run a Consolation. After some adjustments we were able to qualify from the consolation. Once we qualified for the features we knew we just needed to keep clean and run smart to get points.”
“The first feature race definitely had ups and downs. I am glad everyone is ok after all the wrecks, but that one big wreck came out and moved us up a bunch of spots which I was honestly not expecting. We just kept out nose clean from there and ended up going from 22nd-4th.”
“In the second feature we did a little too much to the car and it wasn’t very good. We ran as good and as hard as we could and ended up with another top ten on the night. We brought our new car out tonight after getting it fixed from a Big Diamond wreck a few months ago and now have two cars with setups that have been successful at Grandview this season.”
Nate Brinker finished 9th from his 14th starting position in the first feature and then posted 7th from a 10th starting position in the second feature. Nate started his night by moving from the back of his heat to 4th in a 3 caution heat race that set him up for his double top ten night.
Nate noted “Overall a very solid night. Grandview is extremely tough with the amount of cars they get! In the heat starting 10th and I knew I just had to keep my nose clean while picking cars off when opportunity arose. After the first jingle, patience paid off to let the race work itself out. We made the show and we knew we would start deeper in the field, but the Kevin smith owned 14 is always fast.”
“After the first lap pile up, the crew and help from other teams busted butt to get a new bumper on the car to get us back out. We also discovered the frame to be bent where the right rear radius rod mounted. We got back out, and basically just tried to survive the race by running the bottom and picking cars off when we could. Our main goal for the night was to try some things in the slick to get our program dialed in for some bigger races towards the end of the year. Overall coming off a win at Diamond on Friday and getting a 9th and a 7th tonight while overcoming adversity was a huge win for us. We were glad to be back to get some laps at our home track and see our old friends again.”
Jesse Landis threw a Hail Mary with a provisional and came up with two outstanding finishes. In the first feature he finished 10th from his provisional 27th starting position. In the second feature he ran to a 5th place finish from his 7th starting position posting a solid double points night using a provisional starting position.
Jesse commented “Our night didn’t start off the best in the heat as couldn’t miss a spinning car and bent the left front back, breaking the drag link. We were able to get the drag link fixed but there wasn’t enough time to make the consolation if we switched the axle. We moved forward in the consolation but couldn’t get into the top 4 without any cautions.”
“Used my last provisional and started 27th in the first feature. I got some help by the number of cautions and being able to stay out of them. Finished 10th with a pretty straight car and that was good enough to make the handicapping for the second feature.”
“Made a few changes for the second feature that I probably should have made for the first feature. I started 7th and was much better than I thought it would be. The car started off too tight, but I was able to roll the middle gaining spots back that I lost on the first few laps. After a few cautions I got up to 5th before it locked down on the bottom. So made the best of a rough start to the night with a pretty clean car. On to next week.”
After a great start to the season Matthew Laubach’s bad luck continues in the heat races as this was the second week in a row that he received damage in the heat and could not return for the consolation for his 3rd DNQ of the season.
After taking the season off to reboot for next season; Parker Guldin showed with his driver suite and helmet for the first time this season to pilot the 88X of Kenny Gilmore. Parker was only one alternate away from making the 2nd feature and will be back in action next race with Kenny Gilmore’s 88x.
