Two Rain Delays, Four Winners, One Wild Night at Brewerton
COLUMN BY: Robert Kenney Jr. / BREWERTON SPEEDWAY – CENTRAL SQUARE, NY – Despite two weather delays threatening to wash out the night, Brewerton Speedway fought through Mother Nature Friday night as the J. Gordon Contracting and Stirling Lubricants-sponsored program brought the Winged Warriors of the Empire Super Sprints back to the D-Shaped DIRT Demon for their annual Speedweek stop and second of three appearances during the 2026 season. Joining the card were the Tracey Road DIRTcar Modifieds, Dot Foods DIRTcar Sportsman, and Mirabito 4-Cylinders.
The first rain delay proved brief, but as heat race action was winding down with the Mirabito 4-Cylinders on the track, another wave of weather rolled in around 8:30 p.m. Heavy rain soaked the speedway and put the program on hold for roughly an hour and a half while track crews worked tirelessly to bring the racing surface back to life.
Once conditions were restored, the racing resumed with the Empire Super Sprints B-Main and Dash before feature action finally got underway.
The Dot Foods DIRTcar Sportsman feature produced one of the most exciting races of the night with intense battles at the front of the field throughout the event. A late caution set up a showdown between Quinn Wallis and Tony Finch II. On the restart, Finch capitalized on the opportunity, edging ahead and driving away to score his second consecutive Brewerton victory.
The Winged Warriors of the Empire Super Sprints were next to take center stage, with Larry Wight putting together a dominant performance. Wight had built a lead of more than one second over Zach Sobotka before a late caution erased his advantage and set up a green-white-checkered finish. The challenge proved no problem for Wight, who held strong to capture his second Empire Super Sprints Speedweek win. Dylan Swiernik had the drive of the night though. Starting in the back after issues in his heat race, he picked up 20 spots to finish 3rd.
In Tracey Road DIRTcar Modified action, Todd Root added his name to the growing list of winners this season. Root held off a hard-charging Ronnie Davis III in the closing laps to earn the victory, becoming the eighth different winner in nine Modified events at Brewerton this season.
The Mirabito 4-Cylinder feature followed a familiar storyline as Chris Bonoffski worked his way through the field from deep in the pack to claim yet another victory. The win marked Bonoffski’s seventh triumph of the season, continuing his dominance in the division.
