Column By: ROBERT SYMONDS / RPW – ROSSBURG, OH – Winning at the Dirt Late Model Dream is one thing, qualifying for it is another and Trent Ivey can be capable of both. The driver out of Union, South Carolina has made the long haul to the Eldora Speedway for the Dream since 2021 and can say he picked up a checkered flag after winning his heat race during Fridays Prelim over Ashton Winger, Ricky Weiss, and Brandon Sheppard.
After making it into the Friday night Prelim Feature, Ivey started well inside the top 10 and was holding his own. The track kept getting slicker as the laps wore on and Ivey slipped back during the midpoint of the race to finish 16th.
“It’s hard as heck to make it into the shows at these races,” Ivey mentioned at the conclusion of Friday’s Prelim. “You don’t get a lot of opportunities to practice and we wanted to track a couple of things.”
Ivey also mentioned that last night was their eighth time out with their new Rocket Chassis so it’s showing quite a bit of speed.
“The track started out with a little bit of brown on the bottom and that’s where we were good at. Once that was gone, that was it. If the race was 25 laps, we would’ve been golden.”
Tonight Trent Ivey will start on the pole for heat race 4. Top 3 will qualify into the big dance. He will be joined with Tyler Erb, Cade Dillard, Josh Rice, Devin Gilpin, Mike Marlar, Brian Shirley among others.
