Story By: MARTIN BÉLANGER / CORNWALL MOTOR SPEEDWAY – CORNWALL, ONT – We are less than 70 days from our season opener and it is now time to unveil our 2018 schedule at Cornwall Motor Speedway that includes a total of 19 nights of racing. This upcoming summer will be no different as the schedule will be spectacular and exciting!
Draper Doors new sponsor of the Canadian Nationals
The Canadian Nationals will have a title in 2018 as Draper Doors agreed to be involved with the Modified Series, Draper Doors specializes in garage doors and offers a team with over 20 years in experience, they operate from Kingston and Brockville. Being involved in racing for several years in support of current Sportsman driver Tristan Draper, the Draper family always bring great and well-prepared equipment to speedway they visit.
Big two-day weekend to start May!
The 2018 season will start in great fashion with a big two-day weekend scheduled on May 20 and 21, initial rounds of the Canadian Nationals presented by Draper Doors on Sunday and Race for the Cure Sportsman Series on Monday will highlight the weekend. A complete race program will complete Sunday’s program as the Modifieds will run a $2,000 to win, 40-lap event on Monday along with the Sportsman and the Eastern Ontario Vintage Club. Drivers will have the chance to come and test and tune their race car on Tuesday, May 15 as we will complete May with a complete race program on the 27th.
June will offer variety
The 6th month of the year will offer variety as the Empire Super Sprints will start the month on the 4th, the Lightning Sprints and Danny Lefebvre Memorial for Mini-Stock on the 17th, the 2nd round of the Canadian Nationals presented by Draper Doors and the Soleno Pro-Stock Series will close the month on the 24th.
Spectacular July!
July will not only be spectacular but will also be the busiest month of the season with 6 programs and probably the biggest events of the summer. There is no better way to celebrate Canada Day on July 1st with the Super DIRTcar Big Block Series in town, the Mod-Lite and Mini-Modified will be the stars on the 8th. Will follow with the biggest event of 2018 on July 12, with the Race for the Cure 150 presented by St.Lawrence Radiology and TAS Racing, initial round of the DIRTcar 358-Modified series, the 150-lap event will offer over $40,000 in purse with the winner receiving a share of $12,000 with drivers getting $500 to get the green. On July 15, the popular Autograph night, on the 22nd, the Patriot Sprints, SpeedSTR and SlingShot will be present and the DIRTcar Pro-Stock Series will close out the month on the 29th.
No slowing down in August!
Another eventful month is planned for August as we start with a big double header with the third round of the Canadian Nationals presented by Draper Doors and the 2nd round of the Race for the Cure Sportsman Series, it will be topless night for Sportsman. Late Model fans will be please to see the Northeast Late Model Alliance Series making a stop on the 12th along with the Lightning Sprints. On August 19, the final round of the Race for the Cure Sportsman Series will be presented. On the 26th, the Can-Am Mod-Lite Series and Eastern Ontario Vintage will end August.
Closing out 2018 with a bang!
The traditional September long weekend event with close out the regular season with the final round of the Canadian Nationals presented by Draper Doors along with the DIRTcar Sportsman Series on September 2nd as the Fireball Enduro event will end 2018 on the 9th.
