Story By: ANDREW HARPELL / FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY – KIRKWOOD, NY – The staff, race teams and fans at Five Mile Point Speedway are still hoping for the first race of the August “Championship Month” at the speedway. Despite heavy rain throughout the week and regional flooding all systems are go for racing on Saturday at the speedway. Racing gets underway at 6 p.m.
Race fans will be treated to a great value on Saturday for one of the bigger nights of racing all season long. Three Community Night’s are being hosted on one evening this Saturday. Residents from Harpursville and Ninevah, NY along with residence from New Milford, PA will be admitted in to the grandstand FREE on Saturday. Residents from those area’s only need to present photo i.d. at the ticket booth. All three of those area’s were heavily affected by flooding this week and hopefully a free night of racing will help to serve as a diversion on Saturday for all of those folks.
In addition, it is Youth Night which means all kids 17 years old and younger will be admitted in to the grandstand FREE of charge. Both adult and senior grandstand admission prices will remain unchanged on Saturday despite the big racing program on the card.
The Modifieds will be running double feature events on Saturday along with a complete program of racing for all of the classes. The first Modified feature will pick up from lap 8 after rain cut that feature short back on July 21st. Then a completely full and new racing program will take place as well.
Track crews have been working hard on not only the racing surface but the grounds themselves as a number of days of heavy rain fell throughout the week. The speedway racing oval was literally underwater after flooding rains hit the area several times this week. Track crews spent late hours each of the past two nights to have the speedway race ready prior to the Friday afternoon rain. The track is ready to go for Saturday’s racing action.
Pit gates open at 3:00 p.m. with grandstand gates opening at 4:00 p.m. Practice will take place at 5:00 p.m. with racing set for 6:00 p.m.
