Story By: DAN KAPUSCINSKI / JASON SIMMONS RACING – OSWEGO, NY – On the heels of a dramatic top ten finish in the Topless 100 at Thunder Mountain Speedway, Tyler Thompson drove from 26th to 9th in Friday night’s DIRTcar Sportsman Series event at Brewerton Speedway.
After battling carburetor issues early in the day, Thompson was forced to qualify for Brewerton Speedway’s Duel at the Demon 50 through the B-Main. Finishing second, Thompson started the night’s 50-lap finale from 26th on the starting grid.
Before long, Thompson’s No. 98T was in a battle for Top15 positioning and by the end of the long 50-lap main event, Thompson found himself 9th in the final running order for his first series top ten finish of 2018.
Thompson’s stellar effort has him riding 8th in the Central Region DIRTcar Sportsman Series standings after seven events trailing Kevin Root, Jackson Gill, Zach Sobotka, Matt Janczuk, Dave Marcuccilli, Will Shields and Jessica Power.
The Central Region schedule continues this weekend with back-to-back events at Fonda Speedway on September 21-22. Friday night’s 50-lapper and Saturday’s 30-lapper will conclude the Central Region Tour for Thompson before he begins the Fall Championship Tour on Friday, September 28 at Fulton Speedway as a part of Outlaw Weekend.
On Saturday night Thompson made his first start at Fonda Speedway, but unfortunately ended the night in the outside wall after catching a wheel from a competitor. Thompson was ok, but his Bicknell Chassis machine was left with extensive damage ending the remainder of Thompson’s weekend, which was set to include the Vermont 200 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.
