Story By: TYLER HARPELL / FIVE MILE POINT – KIRKWOOD, NY – After an off season filled with uncertainty, Five Mile Point Speedway will officially open its doors for the 69th consecutive season in 2019. After a successful 2018 racing season it was unclear what the future of the speedway would be as Track Operator Andrew Harpell indicated that he would no longer operate the speedway.
Upon the news, three familiar faces around the speedway sat down and began talks of becoming the next promoters of the speedway. Brothers Tyler, Tanner, and Tucker Harpell, the great grand children of the track’s founders Irving and Anna Heath knew immediately that they wanted to be the ones to take over the speedway and continue its rich history.
The trio have leased the speedway for the 2019 season with their corporation T3 Motorsports, Inc. The Harpell brothers have grown up at the speedway with their father and former promoter Dan Harpell, along with their uncle and most recent promoter Andrew Harpell. Tyler had served as the speedway’s announcer for nearly 10 years, while Tanner and Tucker have spent most of their lives racing at the track and helping out around the facility any way that they could.
After making the decision to become promoters, Tanner and Tucker decided they would take a step back from their racing careers and focus their attention promoting the speedway.
New co promoter Tyler Harpell stated, “We are beyond excited to be the new promoters of the speedway. We have all grown up at the track and it has been a dream of ours to one day become the promoters of the track. It will be a lot of work, but we are ambitious and excited for the future of the track.”
The trio has already gotten to work at the speedway in preparation of the 2019 season and is currently working on finalizing the schedule for next season.
Tyler also stated, “We have a list full of new ideas and a lifetime full of experience in the industry. We look forward to making more announcements in the days and weeks to come.”
A schedule, weekly classes, and rules will be released in the following weeks. An informational meeting will be held at the Five Mile Point fire station just down the hill from the speedway on Saturday January 26th.
