Column By: ROBERT SYMONDS / RPW – DUNDEE, NY – When the Dutch Hoag Memorial was rescheduled for the Spring of 2019, Damian Bidwell knew he had to head back to the Outlaw Speedway to compete for the win especially since it would count towards RUSH Weekly Series point standings.
Saturday during his qualifying heat, Bidwell ran the bottom side of the speedway and was able to work his way from his 4th place starting spot to finish 2nd behind Jeremy Wonderling.
In the 20 lap feature event, Bidwell put his Buckler Transport Rocket xR1 was able to take the lead on lap 8 away from Kurt Stebbins and take the RUSH Weekly Series win. Rookie Scott Waters finished 2nd, Chad Homan third, Chris Fleming 4th, and Jeremy Wonderling rounded out the top 5.
“It feels really good to start off the year with a win,” Damian said after picking up the $1200 victory. “Usually we struggle at the beginning of the year but this win really helps start off our year.”
Bidwell indicated he is chasing the 2019 RUSH Sweeney Weekly Series Championship which is a championship based on points accumulated through 12 racing weeks during the season. Last season, Bidwell finished 6th in the Sweeney Weekly Series points championship being only a mere 20 points behind champion Max Blair.
