RPW Column By: MIKE TRAVERSE / RPW – DINGMAN’S FERRY, PA – The 2019 racing season was a rough one for brothers Brian and Nick Mady. But with the hard work they have put in this winter, the pair feel that they are on the upswing in 2020.
“2019 was a tough racing season for Nick and I,” said the eight year cancer survivor Brian. “But we have been rebuilding our cars and have our season plans set. After racing at the Short Track Super Series events in Florida, I will be racing regularly at Penn Can Speedway and a few select races of the Short Track Super Series. Nick will be racing the Short Track Super Series North Region events.”
“I’m looking forward to not only Florida, but running the whole schedule of Short Track Super Series North races,” Nick said. “When you race in that series, you’re racing with the best of the best.”
The brothers developed their interest in racing from being crew members for their stepfather, Jim Bush, at OCFS. They were later crew members for 5 seasons for Ric Hill when he raced the Harry Davis #53. After getting started with their own racing in the 600 Sprints, they both started racing Crate Sportsman at Penn Can.
Brian finished 2014 as Rookie of the Year at Penn Can, finishing 2nd in points. 2015 saw him racing at Thunder Mountain Speedway and finished 2nd in points with 2 wins. He had a championship season at Thunder Mountain in 2016 taking the title with 3 wins including the Sportsman portion of the Wade Decker Memorial.
Brian really got on a roll in 2018 with 5 straight wins and at one point, had a bounty put on him. Last season, he ran a modified and ran well before engine troubles occurred.
Nick started racing in the Crates in 2016 at Penn can and had 3 wins in both 2015 and 2016. He switched to the Modifieds for 2017.
“I had the opportunity to race a Modified in 2017. I ran quite a few races, but then blew the engine,’ Nick said. “In 2019, I ran just 5 races before more problems sidelined us.”
But despite the recent misfortune, Nick is very upbeat about 2020.
“The last 3 racing seasons haven’t been very kind to me,” Nick said. “I had a lot going on with raising 2 small children and a lot of work commitments and things got very hectic. But we are going to give it our best effort with some great sponsors behind us. I am super excited about the upcoming season. We feel that racing at All-Tech Raceway in the Short Track Super Series will give us a reading on how things will go for us and give us a head start on the season. There’s not much that Brain and I can’t handle.”
Sponsors for Brian and Nick in 2020 are GT Mid Atlantic, Chris Jorrey Excavating, JRA Unlimited, S & D Bodyline, Choice Distributions, Industrial Hose and Supply, Quarry Crossroads, Morgen Motors, New Generation Motors and Color Street.
“I just want to shout out a thank you to our sponsors,” Brian said. “Their combined efforts are making it possible for us to race this season.”
The people that support Mady Brothers Racing are Brian’s girlfriend Brittany, daughter Haley, their Mom, their Uncle Wayne and Aunt Linda, Nick’s fiancee Samantha, Kenzie, Austin and Nick’s sons Bentley and Luke.
The Mady Brothers have experienced both the good and bad sides of racing over the years. The hard working Nick and Brian are determined to swing things back to the good side in 2020.
