Story By: STEVEN OVENS / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – One of the coveted races that Woodhull drivers want to win during the race season are the divisions that offer a ‘King of the Bullring’ event.
The King of the Bullring events are elimination-style races where drivers pair up with each other through a draw and compete in a two-lap match race with the winner moving on and the loser taking their car pit side.
After all 28 cars went through multiple rounds, the final pairing was former NAPA Auto Parts Sportsman and Jake Davis Memorial Modified King of the Bullring champion Kenny Peoples Jr. and former Woodhull Warriors track champion Carter Crooker.
The final pairing competed in a best two-out-of-three format, with Peoples Jr. winning both of the first two rounds to claim his second-straight KotR title in Sportsman. Peoples Jr. was a master of starting quick and winning the game of ‘high speed chicken’ entering the first turn- all of which is key in a short two-lap match race.
“I knew I had to get to the bottom in these deals,” said Peoples Jr. post-race.
“Name of this game is getting a good start. That young man over there (Crooker) is a hell of a wheel man, but I heard his motor stumble a little bit on the one start.”
Peoples Jr. donned the cape and crown to celebrate his King of the Bullring title for 2020. The next King of the Bullring event comes later this season for the Modifieds.
