Story By: KENNY SHUPP / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – KMD Excavation of Cameron Mills, NY has jumped from the frying pan into the fire with their involvement with the Hobby Stock Division at the Woodhull Raceway in 2023.
“My son, Kaiden and daughter, Meadow along with myself compete weekly in the Hobby Stock Class at Woodhull. We absolutely love the division, consequently we decided to sponsor the class in 2023. I purchased a good, used car a couple of years ago from Clayton McClean and won a feature with it in 2021. Kaiden sold off his Crate Sportsman equipment and he purchased an excellent Hobby Stock from Carter and Jeredd Dennis. He wound up with the most features in the class last season and Meadow picked up a heat race win and it is only her first year. The class is a perfect fit for our budget and most everyone in the class gets along extremely well with each other.” That according to team patriarch, Paul Dgien.
Touting perhaps the best racing of any class that races weekly at Woodhull, the KMD Excavation Hobby Stock Class will now have additional funding incorporated into the purse structure complements of Paulie, Kaiden and Meadow Dgien who have performed the leg work.
“We have been working hard to acquire additional funding to pump into the class, claimed Paul Dgien. We are a local company and most of the drivers in the Hobby Stock Division are local competitors. We came up with the idea of trying to promote cubic dollars back into the class and we will do it in the form of certificates from local businesses.”
Addison NAPA, Kelly’s Auto Sales, Sawyer’s RV Repair and Service, Dennis Motorsports, Butler Transport, KMD Excavation and Lee Bills Trucking have all jumped onboard this effort.
A large portion of the contingency awards consist of certificates to various businesses including Addison NAPA.
“We did not want to put cash out there for the racers, rather redeemable certificates or product contingencies, stated Paul Dgien. If we were to hand out cash who knows where it goes. With the products and certificates, it still helps the racers as well as benefitting the sponsors and participating marketing partners.”
