Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Set To Invade Port Royal For Three-Day Rumble By The River

Story By: JUSTIN SNYDER / PORT ROYAL SPEEDWAY – PORT ROYAL, PA – Can you feel it? It is time to ‘Light the fires and kick the tires’ as it’ll be the ‘Rumble by the River’ coming to the Port Royal Speedway August 26th-28th featuring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series!!

The three-day event will feature some of the best late model drivers in the country competing against the River Valley Builders Super Late Model regulars for the largest three-day purse in the history of the Port Royal Speedway for the late model division. In total there will be more than $231,000 on the line for the drivers competing in this knock-down drag out fight for fender supremacy.

Thursday’s ‘Round 1’ will be 30-laps of distance and the winner will take home $10,000 for their efforts. The combined purse for the feature tops $48,000 and racers will get $800 to start! They will be joined by the Selinsgrove Ford Limited Late Models on the card, who will also be racing for $1500/win.

Friday night it will be ‘Round 2’ and the 40-lap A-main will pay $12,000 to the winner and $1000 to start. The total purse for the night tops $52,000! Making their first visit to ‘The Speed Palace’ of 2021, the Mid Atlantic Modifieds will be the supporting division racing for $1000 to win!

Saving the best for last, Saturday night’s ‘Round 3’ finale be 50-laps in distance and will pay $30,000 to the winner and $2000 to start the A-main. The total purse for the evening will be over a whopping $118,000!! The Mid-Atlantic Modifieds will once again be part of the evening, with $1500 going to the winner.

There will also be a full-purse non-qualifiers feature on Saturday night with the winner taking home $2500 for their efforts. The race will pay $250 to start with a a total purse of $11,475 for drivers in competition.

Admission for Thursday and Friday will be $25 for General Admission, $10 for Students and $40 for Pit. Saturday’s finale will be $30 General Admission, $15 for Students and $40 for Pits.

For those who may be visiting and are worried about seating, the Speedway houses over 6,500 general admission seats that all provide excellent views of the track and an infield that rivals any track in the country in terms of size. So, there will be plenty of available seats all weekend.

Fans will also be able to view the ‘Rumble by the River’ races on television later this season in a tape-delayed form. CBS is scheduled to broadcast one night of racing on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 1:00pm, while NBC Sports will broadcast one night of racing on Oct 2 at 2:30pm. MAVTV will also broadcast racing on Nov. 7, Nov. 11 and Nov. 18 at 9:00pm.

Finally, for fans wishing to view from home, you can see all three nights of action on MAVTV Plus.

Past winners with the series at the Speedway are Rick Eckert (2017), Scott Bloomquist (2018), Tim McCreadie (2020), Kyle Larson (2020) and Jonathan Davenport picked up the win in the series visit earlier this season in 2021.

McCreadie enters the weekend tilt as the series points leader and he currently holds a 155-point advantage over Davenport. Hudson O’Neal (-215), Kyle Bronson (-300) and Jimmy Owens (-470) complete the top-five.

Gates for each night will be open at 4:00pm EST, with racing scheduled to begin at 7:00pm EST.
