Column By: MIKE TRAVERSE / RPW – MIDDLETOWN, NY – While the main event stole the show Sunday at the Orange County Fair Speedway, there were still plenty of news and notes from the final day of Eastern States Weekend 2021.
Sunday’s Last Chance qualifier was won by Jack Lehner with Billy VanInwegen 2nd and Allison Ricci 3rd.
Corey Lowitt, driver of the #716, was the Hard Luck Driver. He finished one spot out of qualifying.
Matt Sheppard was the lap 66 leader worth a bonus of $666.66 in memory of Jared Petruska.
Stewart Friesen was the halfway leader and took an extra $1,000 from Busch Light.
Mat Williamson was the Hard Charger winner.
It was a great weekend of racing at the House Of Power. The track surface was in amazing condition and it produced what we saw today, maybe the best 200 many of us have ever seen.
Great job by Mimi Lazzaro with both the Canadian and United States anthems. It was great to see her Dad’s iconic #4 amongst the vintage cars that were on the track for the parade laps.
Sunday Pro Stock Notes
Sunday’s fastest in the time trials was Richard Colesanti. But Colesanti did not fare well in his heat, out after 6 laps.
Sunday heat wins went to Rob Yetman, Josh Coonradt and Luke Horning.
The Pro Stocks put on two very good races at OCFS this year. I’m hoping to see them back at OCFS in 2022.
Thank you to all the good folks at the Orange County Fair Speedway for all the help they give me with my work throughout the season.
