Column By: MIKE TRAVERSE / RPW – WEST NYACK, NY – While the start of the northeast racing season is off in the distance, some of the top drivers from the Orange County Fair Speedway will be in action at a charity event on January 27th.
The ‘Racing For A Cause’ event will be held at the Autobahn Indoor Speedway, located at the Palisades Mall in West Nyack, NY. It is being co-hosted by Autobahn and OCFS.
The event will benefit the Penguin Plunge of Nyack. The Penguin Plunge is a local charity who helps local children with serious medical challenges.
The night is being sponsored by Orange and Rockland Utilities. O & R has a strong community involvement supporting non-for-profit organizations.
OCFS drivers who will be racing in the event include Brett Hearn, Tommy Meier, Tim Hindley, Allison Ricci, Anthony Perrego and Tanner VanDoren. They will be squaring off in the Pro-Am race against drivers from the Autobahn Racing League and others.
Time trials will be held with a $25 Fast Time Award courtesy of Sarvis Tree Services.
Also on the evening’s schedule is a match race between neighboring county executives. Rockland’s Ed Day will race Orange’s Steve Neuhaus.
Spectators will be welcome for this event. The $15.00 donation to spectate will go to the Penguin Plunge.
There will also be a Silent Auction which will have racing memorabilia and items donated by local businesses. The auction will be open from 5:45 until 8:30pm.
There are opportunities for those who wish to sponsor this event. The cost is $300 and for that, you receive 4 spectator tickets, P.A. announcements at the event, business name and logo posted on websites and at the event.
Sponsors for special awards are available.
All drivers must be at the facility by 5:45 with racing scheduled to kick off at 7:00pm. There is a $50 registration fee and all racers must follow the rules of the Autobahn Indoor Speedway. There will be a “Play-Off” style format. The professional drivers may use their usual helmets.
As per the current New York State regulations, face masks must be worn by everyone.
Spectator doors will open at 5:45 so those who wish to can visit the Silent Auction.
The Penguin Plunge is being held this year on Sunday, March 6th. Swimmers will take an icy swim in the Hudson River to help support those children who are less fortunate.
