xxxxxStory By: KENNY SHUPP / OUTLAW SPEEDWAY – DUNDEE, NY – At times this spring Mother Nature has reared her ugly head and other times the weather has been abnormally warm.
Whatever the case, Tyler Siri and his crew at the Outlaw Speedway have the Fast 4/10 of a mile already to go for practice and the Lucas Oil Nationals season opener.
“This place drains very quickly, stated Siri. The track surface is in perfect shape, the pit area is hard and dry and spectator parking spaces have dried up very nicely despite some recent rain and snow squalls. Our first practice is this Saturday on April 2 followed by our final test and tune on April 8. The next night we open for the season and barring any early April snow or heavy rain we are ready to go”!
Both practice dates will be open to any drivers and cars, even those that do not regularly compete at the track and as publicized earlier, it is anticipated a huge contingent of cars will be at the track for the April 8 test and tune in preparation for the April 9 Lucas Oil Nationals.
Gate times for both practice dates as well as the Lucas Oil Nationals will be posted on Facebook as the days of the events draw closer.
Grandstand seating is free on both practice dates with a $25 pit admission for each.
Camping is always free at the Outlaw Speedway along with free rides on Outlaw Crusher, the tracks Monster Truck.
With little or no other tracks seeing race action within the region, Outlaw Speedway will be the go-to place for the Lucas Oil Nationals on Saturday, April 9 as most of the heavy weights in the business will flock to the Yates County oval all vying for the huge purses that are up for grabs.
“I always like to put up a lot of purse money for the first few weeks that we race each season. Most other tracks wait till a week or two later before they open and many of the racers want to get their season going earlier so they come to Outlaw.”
The Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modifieds will race for a posted winner’s check of $3,500. Both the Sunrise Insulation American Racer Tire Sportsman as well as the Speed Connection DIRTcar Hoosier Tire Sportsman along with the Crate Late Models will fight for a winner’s share of $1,750.
The Stan’s No Tubes go off for $1,200 to win and finally the Winner’s Circle Deli Mini Stocks, the NAPA Hobby Stocks and the Swarthout Recycling 600cc Mods all will be vying for the $900 winner’s check.
