Story By: KENNY SHUPP / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – Two practice dates have been announced for the upcoming race season at the Woodhull Raceway.
The track will be open on Saturday, April 2 and 9, 2022 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm both dates for test and tune where drivers will have ample time to shake down their machines for the upcoming season which begins on Saturday, April 16.
“It seems like we just completed the 2021 Awards Banquet last October and now we are set to re-open the track for another season. We are in hopes that the weather will begin to cooperate a little better so things can dry out prior to our two practice dates at the track.” That according to Woodhull Raceway owners, Terry and Niki Brewer.
Over the past fifty-seven years since original track owner, George Williams opened the historic Steuben County Facility, spring weather in Upstate New York has been unpredictable at best. There have been years where early April has still seen several inches of snow on the ground and bitter cold temperatures. Other years it has been unseasonably warm and dry making for easy access into the track and a surface that is race ready.
“It’s hard to predict what it will be like in a couple weeks, but with two consecutive Saturdays of practice scheduled, we are in hopes that one or both dates the conditions will be acceptable so we can get test and tune in ahead of our season opener.”
Plans call for the facility to open early in the day on both April 2 and 9 for fans and drivers to purchase season passes along with reserved seats prior to the season opener. In addition, those who rent season tower space that have not already paid for their rooms can also do so prior to the lid lifter on April 16.
Admission into the main grandstand seating area for both practice dates is free, however there is a charge for those entering the pit area to cover insurance and overhead costs.
It is anticipated that food and beverage concessions will open for both grandstand and pit areas.
Fans and drivers are encouraged to keep a close eye on the tracks Facebook for any potential time changes, weather updates, track and parking lot conditions. Pit gates for both practice dates will open at 4:00 pm.
Many of the tracks top competitors will be at practice with most indicating a good night of test and tune can set-up their respective programs for a successful season. Many of the drivers have not sat behind the wheel of a race car in over six months and they like to shake off any rust that has accumulated over the winter. Also, most of the machines have been rebuilt from last year or are brand new creations. Practice allows teams to check for any abnormalities and in many cases, crews will take time to experiment with different chassis set ups, something they may be reluctant to do on race night when points and money are on the line.
