Story By: KENNY SHUPP / OUTLAW SPEEDWAY – DUNDEE, NY – After two weeks of high-profile season opening unique events at the Outlaw Speedway, the Yates County speed plant will now shift gears and get into regular season mode with the first Super 7 Show of the 2022 season on Friday, April 22.
Buckley’s Tire and Brake located on Lake Road in Horseheads, NY will be the host sponsor for the night which will see the first official point races of the year.
“With the Lucas Oil Nationals and the Cindy Lane Memorial openers in early April now behind us it is time to get settled into our regular season point battles, stated track owner, Tyler Siri. Even with the tough economy, 2022 has all the ingredients of being an exceptionally good year at Outlaw Speedway. Several of last year’s Track Champions will be back to defend, while others have moved into other divisions leaving the door open to some fresh faces winning titles when we wrap up the points in September.”
The Hurricane, Steve Paine will be back looking to back up last year’s Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modified championship which would make three in the last seven seasons since Siri took over Outlaw Speedway. However, Paine will have a tough time holding off the likes of other standout competitors like Bobby Variin, the Doctor, Danny Johnson, Boss Man, Tyler Siri, Kyle Coffey, Cory Costa and Brady Fultz.
2021 Track Champions, Alex Payne in the Sunrise Insulation American Racer Tire Division as well as Ajay Potrzebowski, picking- up the title in the Speed Connection DIRTcar Hoosier Tire Sportsman Division will both be moving into the Modified class in 2022 which means two new champs in the 602 Crate Sportsman Divisions this year.
On April 22 the Sunrise Insulation American Racer Tire Sportsman will run a special 30 lap feature paying a hefty $2,000 to win and drivers like former track champions Karl Comfort and Chris Fisher will lead the charge looking to claim the season ending titles.
In the Speed Connection Hoosier Tire’s its anyone’s bet who will claim the title as with both Payne and Potrzebowski both gone, the flood gates will open.
Glen Whritenour will once again be at Outlaw Speedway looking to rule the roost in the Stan’s No Tubes Street Stock Division. For the veteran Jasper, NY speedster another championship trophy on the mantle will put him in a category of his own having won five of the past six SS titles at Outlaw since Siri took ownership of the place in 2016.
Likewise, Marc Minutolo has been the king pin in the NAPA Hobby Stocks over the past several seasons and will be the odds-on favorite to put another track title under his belt. Last season’s Winners Circle Deli Mini Stock Champ, Scott Lehman claimed his first ever title in 2021 and now has the confidence along with proven equipment to make life miserable for the competition.
With track owner, Siri adding in the all new Swarthout Recycling 600 Modifieds it will be interesting to see which driver will step up to the plate and win the inaugural track title in the upstart division.
Roy Silvers, a great man who this event is named in memory of lost his life over a year ago due to complications of COVID 19. Thru his business, Silvers Used Car Sales, he was a long -time marketing partner at the Outlaw Speedway and his son, Hollywood Chris Silvers has been a standout Sportsman competitor at the track when time allows,
“Roy Silvers was a wonderful person as well as a huge supporter of racing here at Outlaw, stated Siri. He rarely missed a show particularly when Chris was racing. His passing is a huge loss to the business community in Horseheads as well as for all of us here at the track.”
Gates for the April 22 Roy Silvers Memorial will open at 5:30 with the first green flag waving at 7:30 pm.
All newsworthy items along with any weather-related issues will be posted on the tracks Facebook during the week leading up to the event.
Camping is free every race event at the speedway with free rides on the Outlaw Speedway Monster Truck, Outlaw Crusher.
The Outlaw Speedway Saloon will also be open in the pit area complete with a roof top observation deck to view the Fast 4/10 of mile clay oval.
