Story By: KENNY SHUPP / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – The Woodhull Raceway will wrap up the month of May on Saturday, May 28, 2022 with a special Joe Willcox Performance Street Stock Special event paying the winner of the 30 lap feature a nifty $1,000.
2021 class Track Champion, Brett Crawford will lead the charge looking for the big pay day and with his number one nemesis, Brett Marlatt now competing full time in the Armstrong RUSH Crate Late Model Division, Crawford’s life will be much easier. However, he need not look hard over his shoulder as a large contingent of hungry Street Stock competitors will all be looking for the one-grand winners check including the likes of Dan Gardner, Travis Webster, Luke Boom and long time Joe Willcox Performance Street Stock veteran racer, Mick “The Quick” Seeley.
It is yet to be determine if Jasper, NY speedster, Glen Whritenour will be a part of the elite field, but you can never count out the Northeast’s top Street Stock competitor. In recent years, Whritenour has made only rare appearances at Woodhull primarily in higher dollar events including the season ending Woodhull 100 where he is the defending race winner after a spirited 2021 event with Dan Gardner.
Also, on the Great 8 Card it will be the Insinger Performance Modifieds, the NAPA 602 Crate Sportsman and the Armstrong RUSH Crate Late Models. The Big Jim’s Wicked Tee’s sponsored Mini Stocks and youth Warrior Divisions will also be in action along with the Hobby Stocks and Front Wheel Drive’s.
Gates for both pit and grandstand entry open at 4:30 with hot laps at 6:00 pm. The first green flag of the night waves at 6:30 sharp.
Woodhull offers an Early Bird Special for those entering the main grandstand seating area from 4:30 till 5:30 pm. Kids 8-12 and Senior’s over 62 also receive a discount with those 7 years and under admitted free.
Youngsters also have an opportunity to win free prizes weekly if they come early and register for the Joe Willcox Performance Junior Fan of the Week Award. In addition, at the Willcox Booth, those wishing to secure sponsored laps for the season ending Woodhull 100 can now do so each race night leading up to the September 17, 2022 event.
Work continues on the new victory lane located at the back of the grandstand area where post feature accolades, photos and interviews are brought right to the fans. All sponsors, crew members and well wishers have a chance to get up close with each individual class feature winner.
