Story By: MARIN BÉLANGER / CORNWALL MOTOR SPEEDWAY – CORNWALL, ONT – The busiest week of the year continued last night as Bertrand Plumbing sponsor the long awaited return of the Big Blocks with the Canadian Big Block Series in town along with Sportsman and Novice Sportsman.
In the Ramone Pizzeria Canadian Big Block Series feature, Michael Parent led the field of 30 hopeful to the initial green of the 75-lap event. Parent had Louie Jackson had dancing partner early one but that changed as Carey Terrance took second with the leaders already with lap traffic.
Terrance used these conditions to his advantage and took the lead on lap 12 using the inside lane. Chris Raabe also had a great car and was chasing the leader and finally passed Terrance on lap 26. A first caution slowed the field down on lap 33.
Raabe remains first with feature taking another good rhythm, Erick Rudolph moves to second on lap 46 after starting 10th et has Raabe in his sight while Tim Fuller takes third on lap 50.
Raabe use lap car to keep a slight edge over Rudolph as a final caution comes a slow the field with only 2 laps to go.
Raabe makes no mistake and captured the $10,000 check plus a $1,000 bonus for being the best 358-Modified driver, Fuller surprised Rudolph for the second on that restart. All 3 podium finishers had 358 powered engines.
In the Next Level Home Improvement Sportsman feature Cedric Gauvreau took the lead and never looked back as the 25-lap race went caution free, Gabriel Cyr tried to reel in the leader but Gauvreau made consistent laps and won his 2nd feature of the season over Cyr and division’s points leader Ryan Stabler completed the podium.
Josh Jock is the man of the hour in the Fun Zone Party Inflatables Novice Sportsman leader the whole 15-lap race winning over Xavier Delormier and Cole Perry.
