Story By: KENNY SHUPP / OUTLAW SPEEDWAY – DUNDEE, NY – One of the true all -time greats at the Outlaw Speedway will be honored on August 5 as the Outlaw Speedway will recognize the many accomplishments of Gene Dupuy.
“Gene was a fixture at this facility for decades, stated current Outlaw Speedway owner/promoter, Tyler Siri. Gene raced here what seems like forever and after he retired from driving, he became one of my loyal employees taking on the responsibility of weighing cars after heat and feature events. Gene worked side by side with his daughter, Megan at the scales and they made a wonderful team. We had scheduled a Gene Dupuy Memorial Night for 2020, but with COVID it forced us to move the date to 2021. This year’s event will mark the 2nd running of the prestigious event
Every driver that ran against Gene Dupuy will tell you what a tough, nard nosed competitor he was, but he raced everyone clean and quickly became a fan favorite. His resume includes numerous feature wins going back to when the track was known as Dundee Speedway, Dundee Raceway Park, Black Rock and now known as Outlaw. Dupuy was always chomping on a cigar which became his trademark. His premature death in early 2020 has left a huge void in the local race community.
Ironically, the car number that Gene Dupuy ran throughout most of his career was 13x. Many drivers are superstitious and do not like to run the number 13 or a green colored car. That did not bother Dupuy one bit as he proudly displayed the number 13 on the side of his machines for decades.
Last year, Dylan Cecce beat out both CJ Guererri and Glen Whritenour to claim the Gene Dupuy Street Stock Special. This years Stan’s No Tubes Street Stock winner will pocket a check for $1,200.
In addition to the Stan’s No Tubes Street Stocks on the speedway it will be the Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modifieds headlining the night of great racing action as the Mod Squad will be supported by a pair of Crate Sportsman Divisions including the Sunrise Insulation American Racer Tire along with the Speed Connection DIRTcar Hoosier Tire classes. The NAPA sponsored Hobby Stocks, the Swarthout Recycling 600 Mods and the Winner’s Circle Deli Mini Stocks complete the Super 7 Show. The Fritz Masonry Youth Bandits will also see action.
A tremendous amount of work has gone into the facility over the past few weeks including re-shaping and grooming the 4-10 of a mile clay oval in addition to dust oiling of pit roads. Also, a fresh coat of paint has been added to the track s concrete walls along with new logos.
