Cody McPherson Ends Dream Season With 2022 DIRTcar Sportsman Series Championship

Story By: MICHELINA FRISS / DIRTCAR – CONCORD, NC – After not being able to compete in the United States due to Covid-19 restrictions the past few years, Cody McPherson made up for lost time this season.

The St. Catharines, ON driver proved himself a force to be reckoned with, capturing the Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly championship – picking up 12 wins – and dominating the Chevrolet Performance 75 during the 50th Running of NAPA Super DIRT Week by leading all 75 laps.

After a fourth-place finish at Brockville Ontario Speedway last weekend, he secured the DIRTcar Sportsman Series title, completing the trifecta.

“Oh man, what can you say?” McPherson said. “You have goals, but you just don’t know how they will turn out. We started from the very first race. We knew what we had to do to get the most points and what races we needed to make this all happen. It just worked out and thanks to all that helped me as well. What a year.”

McPherson ended the DIRTcar Sportsman Series championship with a 17-point lead over Zach Sobotka. He also claimed two Series wins, three top fives and six top 10s.
