Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / DANNY DIETRICH RACING – GETTYSBURG, PA – Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing may not have been victorious in Williams Grove Speedway’s annual National Open featuring the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, but the team ultimately won the track’s war, utilizing a rally from 19th to solidify not only a top-ten outcome, but also clinch Williams Grove Speedway’s track championship.
Dietrich, driver of Gary Kauffman’s Weikert’s Livestock, Sandoe’s Fruit Market, Pace Performance, Big Cove Whitetail Trophy Hunts, Drop Of Ink Tattoo, Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC, Self Made Racing, No. 48 sprint car, finished eighth in the $75,000-to-win National Open, the exact position needed to clinch The Grove’s title. It was a second-ever championship for the Gettysburg native, as well as a second-ever championship for Gary Kauffman, securing the feat by just ten points over Salfordville’s Freddie Rahmer. Dietrich accomplished his first Williams Grove championship in 2019.
In total, Dietrich raced to 15 top-ten finishes at Williams Grove in 2022 while competing in 20 of the 24 main events contested.
The National Open top-ten also gave Dietrich a sense of redemption, as he was on pace to win one night prior at BAPS Motor Speedway, that until a late race incident resulting in a multi-car pileup ended all potential. Accidental contact by another competitor during the late restart was the catalyst.
“An up and down weekend, for sure, but to rebound for a championship is exactly what we were working toward,” Dietrich stated. “Hats off to this entire team. Our consistency and ability to put ourselves in great positions clinched this title for us. I want to thank Gary Kauffman and all of our partners, as well. They allow us the opportunity to race the type of schedule that we do and we owe them everything.”
Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing will conclude their 2022 campaign with Bridgeport Speedway’s SprintOberfest on Friday through Sunday, October 28-30. The weekend will cap with a $15,000-to-win finale.
