Port Royal Speedway Unveils Diverse Schedule Of Events For 2023 Racing Season

Story By: JUSTIN SNYDER / PORT ROYAL SPEEDWAY – PORT ROYAL, PA – Port Royal Speedway is set to host a jam-packed 37-race schedule during the 2023 racing season featuring 14 different divisions throughout the year.

The Weikert’s Livestock 410 Sprint Cars will be featured a total of 31 times beginning with the 81st Annual Opening Day presented by Packer’s Concessions, LLC., LLC. on March 5th at 2:00pm and concluding with a $6000-to-win event on Friday, Oct. 13th as part of the Short Track Super Series event .

The Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions will again visit the Speed Palace a total of five times in the season. The Bob Weikert Memorial will again take place over the Memorial Day weekend on May 27-28 and will continue to pay $10,000-to-win for the opener and $29,000 for the finale. The marquee event, the 56th Annual Tuscarora 50, will again be three days Sept. 7-9 and will feature payouts of $10,000, $10,000 and a record-high of $56,000 for the finale.

HVAC Distributors, Inc.., Tedd Reitz, Packer’s Concessions and Ramsey’s Car Wash and Garage will serve as the presenting sponsors for the Tuscarora 50 weekend.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will again return to the Speedway in 2023 for the two-day Nittany Classic Oct. 6-7. However, for the first time ever, the series will visit the Speedway for an early March swing with a two-day show paying $10,000 to-win both nights on March 10-11. H&N Landscaping and Tree Service will be the presenting sponsor for all of the Outlaws events in 2023.

Mike Cleck Paving & Sealcoating, Inc. and has stepped up their support of the speedway in 2023 as well, with them serving as the presenting sponsor for two nights of racing. First they’ll present the “Spring Thaw” on April 22nd paying $10,000 for an unsanctioned event, before also hosting the 17th Annual Living Legends Dream Race on July 29th. The event will see competitors taking part in a pair of $10,000 to-win Twin-25 features, along with a $5000 to win feature for the Super Late Models.

Other highlights include a pair of Pennsylvania Speedweek dates on Saturday, July 1st and Monday, July 3rd. Saturday’s event will be the 5th Annual Greg Hodnett Classic will pay $10,000-to-win presented by Ramsey’s Car Wash and Garage, while Monday’s Speedweek finale will be the Keith Kauffman Classic, paying $10,000-to-win courtesy of Valley Supply.

The Super Late Models have 19 scheduled events for 2023. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will visit the Speedway three times in 2023, beginning with a $10,000-to-win Battle in the Borough event on Sunday, April 30th. The series other event, the Rumble by the River, will serve as the biggest event of the season at the track for the Super Late Models with a pair of $5000-to-win ‘Twin 25’s’ taking place on August 25th followed by a whopping $50,000 finale on August 26th.

The World of Outlaws Late Model Series returns to the Speedway as well in 2023 and they will compete for $15,000-to-win on May 20th. The ULMS Racing Series will sanction two events beginning with a $4000-to-win event on March 25th. They will conclude their season at the Speedway on Sept. 3 for the 20th Annual Butch Renninger Memorial Race during the 168th Annual Juniata County Fair Opener and that will pay a minimum of $7,333 for the winner and features various other contingency prizes throughout the night.

Another event to look forward to will take place on April 15th, where the division will take part in a special “Australian Pursuit” format during the night. New to the Speedway for the division in 2023 will be the return of the popular Appalachian Mountain Speed Week, which will make their visit to the track on June 10th and pay $5000 to win presented by Tedd Reitz.

Returning for their fifth consecutive full season of events, the Limited Late Models will compete in a total of 12 events for the 2023 season. They will again be featured as part of the Butch Renninger Memorial event in September with an expected winner’s share of $3,333 and they will make their first visit of the season on March 25th. They’ll compete for $1500-to-win as part of the Lucas Oil Late Model visit in April and take part in their biggest show of the year on August 5th.

That night will be presented by Zimmerman Truck Lines Inc and Zimmerman Truck Repair and will be the $3500-to-win Ron Zimmerman Tribute. The night will feature a $500 quick time award along with $250-to-win heat races as well!

The PA Sprint Series 305 Sprint Cars will have 10 events scheduled in 2023. They’ll make their first visit on Saturday, April 8th, and will close out their season with the 12th Annual Keystone RaceSaver Challenge event on Saturday, Oct. 21. They’ll be on the card for the opening night of the Bob Weikert Memorial in May and be part of the Tuscarora 50 weekend on Thursday, Sept. 7.

A multitude of other open wheel divisions will join in on the fun for the 2023 season and arguably there will be no bigger event then the June 17th annual visit of the USAC Racing Eastern Storm. Joining the wingless sprint cars racing for $6000 will be the USAC Silver Crown Series racing for $8000 and the 410 Winged Sprint Cars competing for $5000. The event, dubbed the USAC Eastern Blast, will be a must see event at the Speed Palace and will be presented by Bobby Rahal Toyota of Lewistown.

The United Racing Club 360 Winged Sprint Cars will make one visit to the Speedway in 2023 on July 3rd for a $2000-to-win event and the USAC East Coast Sprint Cars Wingless Sprint Cars will also be on hand twice (April 29 and August 19).

The Path Valley Wingless Sportsman will return to the track in 2022 with three total visits. They’ll be part of the Bob Weikert Memorial finale in May and the March 11th World of Outlaws visit before concluding their season at the Speed Palace as part of the 71st Foss Jewelers, Inc. Labor Day Classic on Monday, Sept. 5. As tradition, this event will again be our Fan Appreciation Night with $10 Infield Admission and $15 Grandstand General Admission.

For the fourth consecutive season the Short Track Super Series Modifieds will return for the Speed Showcase Oct. 12-14, with the finale paying $50,000-to-win. The 602 Crate Modifieds will be on the card for that event on Friday and Saturday as well, along with the Pro Stocks on Saturday competing for $1250.

The Mid Atlantic Modifieds will be at the Speedway twice as part of the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Rumble by the River event in August, while the 4-cylinders will make two visits as well as part of the Labor Day Classic in September and the Saturday, October 21 finale.

The Speedway will be dark for five weekends during the season. The first off weekend will be March 18th, followed by May 13th, June 24th, July 22nd and August 12th.

Prior to opening day on March 4th, there will be a test and tune session for all drivers who will compete at the track in 2023. The session will run from 1-4pm and grandstand admission will be free for fans wanting to visit the track early.
