Donny Schatz Consistent In Texas Outlaw Nationals; Jason Johnson Classic Coming Up
Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / TONY STEWART RACING – BROWNSBURG, IN – Ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, Donny Schatz, is certainly no stranger to the historic Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, and although the Fargo, North Dakota, native was short of attaining top-ten outcomes in the two-day Texas Outlaw Nationals, he was successful in maintaining consistency, finishing 12th and 11th, respectively, while visiting the birthplace of the Outlaws.
Although missing the ultimate goal, and faced with limited passing conditions, Schatz, ace of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, Advance Auto Parts, Carquest, Ford Motor Company, Ford Performance, MadJax XSeries, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Absolute Automation and Security, Hunt Brothers Pizza, Elliott’s Custom Trailers and Carts, No. 15 sprint car, did manage to move forward in both nights of the Texas Outlaw Nationals; 15th to 12th the first evening followed by a bump from 12th to 11th in the $20,000-to-win finale.
Other Texas Outlaw Nationals highlights include qualifying ninth overall in the weekend’s finale. Schatz would race on to finish fourth during heat race competition.
With all results considered, Donny Schatz remains seventh in the World of Outlaws championship standings, padded by five top-ten finishes – four of which top-fives – thus far in 2023.
Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will continue their 2023 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series campaign with another action-packed weekend through the Midwest, this time visiting US 36 Raceway in Osborn, Missouri, and 81 Speedway in Wichita, Kansas, on Friday and Saturday, April 7-8. The stop at 81 Speedway – the fifth annual Jason Johnson Classic – will award a $20,000 payday.
